Who has one and how do you have it set up?

I just bought one in the Vanguard Series 2 Backcountry model. Looking to pick up a Leupold VX-3 with the CDS or maybe sacrifice some weight and go with the Vortex Viper HS Long-Range 30mm scope?? not sure yet... Thoughts??

Planning to set it up for a lightweight mountain rifle for coyotes up to deer. looking forward to seeing how it shoots! But not looking forward to buying ammo for it!! lol

I have the Backcountry in 300 win mag with the Leopold VX 3 with the CDS on it now. Perfect set up for a mountain rifle. Not so much for a long range rifle though.

While the CDS system is nice, I live at 1,000 ft above sea level and hunt above 10,000 ft so its never going to be accurate long range setup for mountain hunting. If long range is the direction that you are headed then you will definitely want the Vortex.

With that being said, for the right price I would be willing to part with my 12.6 ounce Leopold VX 3 3.5x10x40 with the CDS system that is in perfect condition because I will eventually be going with the Vortex PST but was thinking of waiting until next season. Sucks that you add about 10 ounces but the capabilities of my scope compared to the PST is apples and oranges. Plus its fun to learn how to adjust the MOA/MIL on your own anyway.

That's exactly the dilemma I have is I like the flexibility of the MOA turrets but honestly I think 400yds would be a long shot for me so im not sure its really worth the extra weight.

My bigger mountain rifle in .300WSM has a Z3 4X12X50 with the BRH reticle on it and I really like the over all weight of that gun being in the low 7's!

I have spent too much money looking for that ideal, lightweight package. The .240 is an excellent candidate, however.

Not a lightweight mountain rifle, but it is what I pack for coyotes to caribou. The .240 is probably my favorite round and has killed everything that it has pointed at inside of 700yd... Someday I would love to get into the Loooong range territory with it with a scope upgrade.

Build based off of the m70 action married to a Krieger barrel.

craig..i have a 257 weatherby with a VXIII (plain jane)

i dont shoot it much because it is so expensive now. awesome caliber, the 240!! have fun with it.

I have a .257 Vanguard I. I put an Weaver 4-16 (already owned so no cost) on it until I can figure out exactly which scope I want?

With that .240 you could shoot a ttsx or AB and go kill anything within 400 yards.

That's exactly what I want to do with it! Going to probably run the ttsx to keep me legal anywhere I go with it.

I ordered up the 4.5X14X40 Leupold VX3 CDS. Like you said 0-400,500 yds should be a real killer.

Got it all set up and sighted in at 100. It's a breeze to shoot and it shooting pretty well for me so far. Running the 85 gr Barnes TSX's in the factory Weatherby ammo for now.

This old German made .240 Weatherby Mark V (1969 model) was my first rifle. I still have it, and it's still my favorite rifle. Just a great round. I've killed a bunch of critters with it since my dad gave it to me 30 years ago. I like 100 gr Partitions.
