22cm vs 6cm

22CM will kill anything with the right bullet in the right spot. BUT I'm not sure what bullet to shoot out of a 22CM to preserve coyote hides hahaha. Maybe that new 62 ELD-VT? But I honestly don't know what bullet will guarantee stay inside the hide and not absolutely destroy the pelt on exit.
If saving coyote pelts is your goal I wouldn’t hunt with any creedmoor. The answer to your question is 17 rem, 204 ruger or 223 with light constructed varmint bullets. If you have the skill and patience it’s hard to beat a shotgun on pelts.

If your wanting to use it for big game. I’d go 6 cm. Because some states don’t allow .224 for big game.

Also 22 creed is awesome. But it’s not gonna be the best for preserving coyote hides

I’ve been going back and forth with this for 3 months 😂 love the speed of the 22 but I think the flexibility/availability of 6 opens more doors.

I am going 6 Creed because it is legal for anything I hunt in my state. If the 22 Creed was legal for deer and elk, I don’t think I would have any hesitation hunting with that either.

My 22 creed I run 85 rdfs at 3400.
If I’m going to drop it down below 3200 to meet the rules I’ll just stick to the 6 and keep the mass and bc.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on upgrading/building my Tikka.
I’d like to have a smaller round to preserve coyote hides and not sure if the 6mm is too big. (New to pursuing yotes)
It would be a nice bonus if I could use it on black tail as well, has anyone used the 22cm on deer?

Coyotes are a weird case. I have shot dozens with a 243 with 58 grain and some were nasty, others you could barely see the entry. That’s said I highly recommend you shoot a coyote with whatever you like then toss them in a ditch and forget about fur, it’s not even worth the gas you put in your tank to get to your spot

Shot the 62 ELD-VT all year out of a long 22 Creed. Sample of size of 50 or 60 coyotes and the only exits were fouled i.e high shoulder/back, neck, legs. If you center mass them they perform a lot like a vmax. No exit little blood. In my opinion it is a great bullet.

What speed were they going?

You won't save hides with either option. If you truly want to save hides, stick with a 223 or 22-250 pushing a varmint bullet under 55gr.

Long, heavy bullets, like those used in the creedmoors you listed, tend to penetrate, leading to at least twice the fur damage, but more realistically, 4x the fur damage due to bullet expansion.

Nice. I’ve heard a lot of reports of guys having issues with them splashing on coyotes So good to hear something different

Yeah I’ve heard the same thing and there was zero of that, several at under 50 yards too. I will say if you do hit them high or in the neck or head it can be pretty brutal. But a light vmax will do the same thing
