Getting ready to pull the trigger on upgrading/building my Tikka.
I’d like to have a smaller round to preserve coyote hides and not sure if the 6mm is too big. (New to pursuing yotes)
It would be a nice bonus if I could use it on black tail as well, has anyone used the 22cm on deer?

Your 22 Creedmoor will take deer and then some.

they’re both great. This year I watched a bull moose in Alaska die by 22 Creedmoor. You’re not gonna have any problems with deer. If you handload get the 22 if you buy ammo get the 6MM they’re both great.

I shot both of these with my 22 Creedmoor also

Those are some tanks! Congrats on a couple studs. I don’t hand load as of now but I do intend to start. Thanks for the input!

That looks like a good thread I’ll read through it. Thanks!

I would say whichever one your want. Or whichever on is legal in your state for whatever you want to hunt. 22CM is super appealing for me. But I can't use a .224 in elk, 6mm is the minimum. So that's what I chose so I can use it on multiple animals if I choose.

That’s the same here in Oregon. I don’t need it to be used for elk but wouldn’t hurt to have as a back up.

You really have to be shooing a long way for a 6CM to be “needed” over a 22CM.

I’ve killed 15 big game animals since September with my Tikka 22 Creedmoor shooting 80 ELDX Hornady factory ammo. Shots from 30 yards to 630 yards with no fuss. I’ve also killed hundreds of varmints and coyotes, shots as far as 1,000+ yards.

Just buy both. You'll have them eventually. If I could only have one I'd probably settle for the 6 but that's just because I have more time behind one.

22 creedmoor is the answer unless you run into legal caliber restrictions in the states/animals you plan on hunting. A guy really can’t go wrong with either though.

I went with a tikka 8 twist .243 win. If you went this route you would have a plethora of factory loads to pick from, but you don’t really obtain the benefits of the 8 twist unless you reload.

22CM will kill anything with the right bullet in the right spot. BUT I'm not sure what bullet to shoot out of a 22CM to preserve coyote hides hahaha. Maybe that new 62 ELD-VT? But I honestly don't know what bullet will guarantee stay inside the hide and not absolutely destroy the pelt on exit.

That was my thought lol. Not sure you're gonna find a bullet that won't nuke a coyote that will also make it to a coyote with a 7, 7.5, or 8 twist
