Assuming all things equal which would you do choose for heavier bullets...22arc bolt gun or 223 seated long?

Not looking to go to 22 Creedmoor at this time.

If you hand load, and have a rifle you can reliably cycle 2.5-2.6” 223 rounds, a lot of the ARC shine wears off.

If those things aren’t true, and/or it’s a gas gun the ARC is the answer.

I went ahead and jumped on the 22 arc, I love it, but not sure I gained much, and currently I’m debating whether to get an upper to go with my bolt gun. I’m currently shooting the 88 tmk at 2850, but I think the bolt 223 guys are getting over 2700 so just over 100fps difference. And if I do get an upper I have to keep my ammo segregated, which will be an issue with long loaded 223 as well.

Why is the gas gun that much better? I was comparing my 223 77 loads to 22 arc 77 and 88 loads and I just wasn’t that impressed with the gas gun 22 arc.

Because at 2.26” OAL you can fit significantly more powder in ARC case than you can in .223. Doesn’t matter much on light bullets. Shoot the heavies and it makes a big difference.

223 loaded long in an AR doesnt really work all that well.
Just using sierras data for the 77 tmk in gas guns the arc is only showing a 100 fps gain. But, if guys are pushing it up to near bolt gun pressure then there begins to be a significant gain. I haven’t heard of anyone blowing up their AR arc bolts, so, how hard are you able to push the arc in a gas gun?

I’d think a 22 GT would be the better option than the arc for pushing a heavy 224 if you didn’t want to go to a CM again.
16” 223 here pushing 88’s at, or close to, 2700.
Don’t have a real draw to change it up personally.

I have a 22ARC (20' bbl) gas gun and a 223 bolt gun (22"bbl). In shooting Berger 85.5s the ARC gets 150fps more than my 223. The gas gun is restricted to 52K psi though. I have shot both of these out to 1000 yards and the ARC hits with way more oomph. The 223 is anemic. I can go up in bullet weight with the ARC. Not so much with the 223.

For me, it would depend on what you are going to do with it. My ARC is 14 pounds and my 223 is 8.5. If I am plinking steel, it is the ARC all day. If I am out coyote calling or other varmints, then the 223 will get picked as I will do a lot more walking...

You can get 75's in a couple varieties for your 223 that are ar compliant. The 75gr speer gold dot, the 75 hornady bt match, the Berger is too long, but boy does it fly nice.

So I do have a pile of 75 ELDMs that are partially causing my question.

Anyone have a comparison of velocity the 75 ELDM seated out to the lands on 223 vs seated max AR mag length? My thought process was to snag a Tikka and use a modified magazine so I could feed longer ammo
