Why is the gas gun that much better? I was comparing my 223 77 loads to 22 arc 77 and 88 loads and I just wasn’t that impressed with the gas gun 22 arc.If you hand load, and have a rifle you can reliably cycle 2.5-2.6” 223 rounds, a lot of the ARC shine wears off.
If those things aren’t true, and/or it’s a gas gun the ARC is the answer.

Just using sierras data for the 77 tmk in gas guns the arc is only showing a 100 fps gain. But, if guys are pushing it up to near bolt gun pressure then there begins to be a significant gain. I haven’t heard of anyone blowing up their AR arc bolts, so, how hard are you able to push the arc in a gas gun?223 loaded long in an AR doesnt really work all that well.
You can get 75's in a couple varieties for your 223 that are ar compliant. The 75gr speer gold dot, the 75 hornady bt match, the Berger is too long, but boy does it fly nice.I have a 22ARC (20' bbl) gas gun and a 223 bolt gun (22"bbl). In shooting Berger 85.5s the ARC gets 150fps more than my 223. The gas gun is restricted to 52K psi though. I have shot both of these out to 1000 yards and the ARC hits with way more oomph. The 223 is anemic. I can go up in bullet weight with the ARC. Not so much with the 223.
For me, it would depend on what you are going to do with it. My ARC is 14 pounds and my 223 is 8.5. If I am plinking steel, it is the ARC all day. If I am out coyote calling or other varmints, then the 223 will get picked as I will do a lot more walking...
