I have a 224 Valk. I built a while back and just getting into some thermal hunting with it. Been shooting Hornady 75gr BTHP and have had a fair share of runners in a the few that i have shot. Just last weekend I shot one quartering toward me, i put it right in its chest and watched it run a half mile before getting into some tall red grass. I'm curious if anyone has some input on something that would produce better results. Keep in mind I am not concerned with fur damage. I also have a 22gt I have almost put together and was curious if anyone has experience with one hunting coyotes. What bullets to use in it possible for the best results. I have had my eye on some Sierra blitz king and varminters to load in both rounds. Just curious if anyone had real life experience with these. Thanks.

We've been using the 224 valkyrie with 60 grain v-max for going on 5 years. We have dedicated thermal rigs for coyotes and daytime set-ups for coyote & wolf and they have knocked down 300+ coyotes and more than a couple wolves. We get an occasional runner but more times than not they are stone dead.

I also have been using the 60gr V-Max for the past three years or so. Most go right down and also have a large exit wound. This is for the Valkyrie, I have no experience with the 22gt.IMG_5254.jpegIMG_5406.jpeg. I will attach some pics from these bullets on coyotes that were 100-300yds or so. IMG_5261.jpeg

I’ve been using Federal gold medal matchking. I know they are not game bullets but the 90 grain bullet has been working for me.

I’ve had my semi custom 22 GT for about 6 months. 18” barrel shoots 80 ELDM at 3086. And it is an absolute menace on coyotes. I came from a 22-250 shooting 53s and the main difference i have observed is that the 80s will always exit on the far side of broadside shots. Frontals stay inside and the dog will sound like a ziplock bag full of Mac and cheese when you pick them up. A little less flat to 300 yards but i won’t go back to 53s after trying these.

As most others have stated try a better bullet. The bthp can be hit or miss in terms of terminal performance.

IME the Vmax is an outstanding bullet for yotes. The eldms, tipped match kings, Nosler ballistic tips are also what I’d be looking at if I were you. That GT will be a hammer too.
