Anyone ever killed game with Hornady 68Gr BTHP?

Coyotes, prairie dogs. Colt 6700 1/9 twist. Wayback machine. Still in the safe, still have a couple hundred loaded and a couple 500rd sleeves of bullets. Although accurate, 55 gr NBT’s are better for varmints. I never tried them on antelope or deer, it wasnt legal back then, and I’ve got better rifles to use. .22 cal/ 60+ gr bullets are legal for medium size game in WY, now, thats where it ends for me. I put some 60 gr loads together for my .22-250 Sako, haven’t used it. I can’t draw a resident goat tag to save my life. As for anything larger, they get more Ft/lbs., and higher caliber.

How heavy is the rifle?

It's a Savage lightweight with a fluted Tikka profile 1:8 add on barrel. 20". So it's not heavy. I use a good bi-pod. There's a suppressor too.

It looked like your point of aim was the front of the shoulder. Is that pretty common in NZ? I tried it this year on my cow elk with the same result. It was an instant drop. I have read something about a big nerve bundle in that area that causes collapse when it's hit.

I'm not overly sophisticated about aiming point but anywhere close to this puts them down. On bigger stags Im inclined to move to the crease for a lung shot with the .223. A good frangible bullet is important. This was deer 10 for 10 shots this year

I’ll add that I have 4 bolt action .223’s, and 6 semi’s. My Ruger KGSR is my truck gun. Just so you know that I’m not basing my opinion off of a sample of one…

Those little Shiras bulls are pretty cute.

Good thing there aren’t many cliffs up North. We don’t have to worry about them jumping over the edge so we can just anchor them with a 223 and an 88 ELD m. Plenty of whallop.
