.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Hey guys. I am currently reading through this entire thread. I will still end up reading it all, but I wanted to ask a question. Is there a consensus for best non custom ammo to use for the .223? Is the eldm a solid choice for deer? I am in the middle of sighting in and finding a hunting bullet. Gun will be what my son uses for his first deer hunt this year, also after shooting it a bunch it might be my favorite gun I have ever owned. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

What twist is your rifle’s barrel?

Thanks for the help fellas. I am about 300 pages into the thread right now. Super informative. Matches what I have seen with my own eyes throughout my hunting life. Always hunted with a 6 Remington. Hornady superformance 95’s. Any shot in the ribcage would absolutely turn the lungs and heart into jello and usually result in near instant death. Ended up buying a 6.5 prc three years ago, when I couldn’t find 6 rem ammo. Used accubonds and while they kill just fine it was not nearly as devastating as the 6mm. After that I built a full custom 7 prc thinking I needed more “pop”, and now I am here wondering if it was all a waste. I guess more guns is more better.

308 yds. 74 grn Targex projectile. They are custom made using Berger jackets. 2950 fps.
It looked like your point of aim was the front of the shoulder. Is that pretty common in NZ? I tried it this year on my cow elk with the same result. It was an instant drop. I have read something about a big nerve bundle in that area that causes collapse when it's hit.
