Shot a buck deer and cow elk with the 135g 6.5 this year, worked fantastic.
Ordered 500 of the 79g and a 22cm barrel to shoot next year. @SouthPaw has reported good success with the 79g at creedmoor speeds.

You are welcome. I have an Ruger M77 Ultra Light in 223 with a 1:12 twist and in my research this bullet keeps getting mentioned as absolute deer poison.

I'd be curious what penetration looks like with this bullet. Having shot a few deer with 69 gr TMK, it does not appear to penetrate like the 77 gr version. 69 gr are still sufficient for whitetails, but I have to believe this trend continues, and I wonder where the point is that it causes problems.
Not saying someone shouldn't use it, but it does make me curious.

You're right. It definitely wouldn't penetrate as deep as the heavier bullets, and there would be a point of diminishing returns. But 50 and 55gr soft points out of slow-twist .22-250 and .220 Swift barrels have been killing deer for almost a century. If his barrel is too slow for 77 or 69gr, the 60 might be an option.

Without good data we wouldn't know the velocity threshold for the bullets we are using. How many deer have you taken at what yardage at what impact velocity with what bullet? Pics will help. And as far as our "experts" go, we have groups of guys in the thousands of big game kills.

Made a few of these up for a buddy for his fall meat collection. He was having some issues with the other unknown bullets he was running so I volunteered to make him a load and to report back with his findings and kills.

Said there’s a noticeable difference in killing power as these things pack a noticeable little punch. Second photo shows lung fragments on the ground. He’s impressed

Alright, got everything in and am hoping to get it all put together this weekend. I'm solo parenting so there is a chance the kids keep me too busy, but we'll see.

I have a question that I think has been beat to death here, but before I start shooting through ammo supplies I want to be sure. I've got a pile of various 5.56mm FMJ's sitting around that were bought to be plinking rounds for the AR. It's all factory made new or remans. Is the consensus that all factory made 5.56mm ammunition is safe to shoot in the Tikka's, or should I reserve the 5.56mm that isn't Bone Frog, Black Hills, AAC, or the other brand names mentioned in this thread to the AR for general plinking at the range?

I don't expect the different bullet weight to have the same POI, so it's not like I plan is zeroing the rifle with it, but there's enough that it would take me a bit to burn through. It's probably just a Wednesday's amount of ammo for some of the guys on this thread though... I just don't want to damage the rifle, or myself, plinking with junk ammo that I would only be shooting for $@*%s and giggles.

Reading through the thread most are using heavy for caliber bullets which I’d definitely prefer.
As I live in CA where copper/monolithic is a requirement what would be the recommended manufactured ammo/bullet (I do not hand load) for the .223 Rem for deer sized game (seems Hornady and Barnes make them in the 50gr-55gr range)?

If your rifle can handle a 5.56 load, Blackarc loads NAS3 cases with the Barnes 70 gr TSX. That might help with the velocity that the solid coppers need.

I was convinced to read this thread and before getting a quarter of the way through, I ordered a tikka t3x 16” threaded and borrowed the SWFA 10x.
A mag full of TMKs and only 40 mins of walking lead to another point for the RSS.
130 yards, quartering away, hit just before the half point (terrible breathing from the hike up) and a 40 yard death run across the side of the mountain.

Second photo is exit wound. He sounded like a water bed when rolling him around to quarter out.
