.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Taking my newly put together Tikka 223 Roughtech Ranch on a deer hunting trip this weekend. I'm really late putting this together and don't have a lot of ammo for it. I have 30 rnds of Norma Golden Target 77gr and 20 rounds of Sig Marksman 77gr OTM. It shoots the Sig lights out (sub moa 7 rnd 100 yards shooting in a hurry) so I'm leaning towards that.

Would terminal performance vary much between the two bullets sub 400 yards?

Neither one of those. They will kill, but perforce is erratic. Find Hornady 73gr ELD-M match ammo.

I like taking out the running gear. That said 30yrds its getting a round in the neck
Isn’t that knowingly giving up a lot of meat?
And with a neck shot is there higher risk of error? Not hitting the trachea, artery, or spine and just a large chunk of flesh?

Thank you all for the great info here. Finally took my tikka stainless 223 to the range. 16.5” barrel chopped with banish backcountry on it. What a riot to shoot I wish I had one of these growing up rather than getting rocked by un braked in suppressed 30 cals to practice as a kid (built character or whatever I guess).
I tried a number of factory rounds but the first few I needed to work on form so the data is trash. I got my stuff figured out for the aac black sabres and the tmks. Those shoot great for the price.

AAC 77 tmk: 2659fps avg, .9 moa
AAC 75 black Sabre: 2677 fps avg, 1.39 moa

PSA has 77 TMK back in stock. Picked up a 1000. Also 8 shot first 4 was zeroing it in with the 77. Second 4 was the grouping at 100. The 4 grouping was done under 20 seconds per shot. I would like to mention I had to rezero from 75 black tip to 77 TMK. Shooting out of a 20in wyde Ar-15. At 300 was sitting at 3 moa with a 3 shot grouping you see at the picture. I just point and aim didn't account for drop. I was impressed with ACC. I wasn't so much with 75 Sabre but could be me though, 300 yards with 10 mph NE winds shooting from the South. I'm not a good shooter but I was having trouble with Sabre as you can see. I was aiming at the bolt head.

Are you all shooting the 556 in a 223 REM barrel?

Yes, this is what I got and that's the ammo I use.

Late to th Cult of 77 TMk
Unfortunately they are using 77 SMK which is incredibly unreliable for fragmenting below even 2200 FPS. Past 200 yards from even an 18” barrel, it’s going to icepick often and almost certainly once past 300. Great target bullet, crappy at everything else. Mystified because it’s a tad better than the M855 junk it was paired with for military use.
