ahhh thanks for running the numbers for me on that... so does seem 22-250 would be value-add vs 223.

Trade-off is factory ammo availability and/or brass, and barrel life.

In thinking about going 22-250, it makes more sense to me to just go 22 Creedmoor for brass availability. I think some of the factory 22-250 barrels are not fast twist so you'd have to rebarrel anyway...

I found (I believe based on a post in this thread, but I can’t seem to find it) some Black Hills 5.56 77gr TMK for $1.32 per round (before taxes or shipping). For those who buy manufactured ammo, how does this compare to historic 77 TMK prices? It's less than I recently paid for 500 of the same 77gr BH, and since I presently don't need more, I'm trying to convince myself to hold off...

When you do need them, they won't be there.

I thought I would go 223ai, but ended up deciding against it. 450 covers 98% of my hunting, I can of course shoot further, but I don't need 500 yards for hunting in most conditions.

You won't find factory ammo options, so you are forced to reload. Not terrible, but I think I'd consider different cartridges. 22 arc, 22 Creedmoor come to mind.

The 223 option is nice for cheap ammo, relatively easy to get.

You might want to look at 75 gr ELDM for that new Tikka. Much more available and lots cheaper. Form thinks it’s comparable in performance to the 77 TMK, just with less penetration.

I‘m using 23.5 gr Benchmark loading just touching the lands, it’s max so work up.
I bought a box, yesterday to load up. I also have 2 boxes of black hills tmks showing up tomorrow.

I had no issues at all. They were great to deal with.
Well damn, thats amazing. I tried multiple times and kept having error messages. Then I tried to call multiple times with no replies. Stuck buying Black hills. $

Edit: Just tried again to buy two more boxes . Same error issues at checkout. Not sure what it is, but im done trying with them. Glad you got it to work. I have my BH at least. Will take me a while to shoot thru all fiddy anyway. I wont be just random target shooting with 77 TMK.

I just ordered a bunch more Black Hills 5.56 TMK's because they shoot so well out of my Tikka. And they come in Lake City Brass which is unobtanium (though crimped).

How do the Stand 1 Armory 223 TMK's stack up in terms of velocity and accuracy in a Tikka for those who have shot both?

Edit - I see someone posted that they were comparable in terms of accuracy, but still curious on velocity.

You got me curious because my prior experience (Nov of last year) was easy (although at a lower price). I think they are having website certificate authenticity problems. I think their current price of $1.70 per (before shipping and taxes) is significantly than what I paid last year, and more than what I just paid for BH ($1.37 - total).

Yeah - no go on the Stand 1 website checkout for me either. Giving up and sticking with BHA for now.

I was close to going with them, but found this price was a bit better in total:
