223 ai load data

Do you find you need to full-length size after the third firing? Just wondering how long one can get by with neck sizing only with less stretch in the AI case. 2 or 3 firings was about all I could neck size with 223 being chambered in an UL-UL. Gave up on neck sizing in general in that case.

I’ll neck size a few 3x cases and see if they chamber.

I was only neck sizing to make headspace on first firing, and then second firing because I knew some of the brass hadn’t fully blown out the shoulders completely by case capacity measurement.

Probably could get away with it for more firings I just hadn’t planned to

Do you jam the bullets for forming 223ai?

I didn't today. When I started making my ammo I didn't have the barrel yet.

Just got cheap bulk 55 fmj's and had a couple lb of blc2. Loaded em near max and to fit the magazine.

Seemed to work good. Cranked off about 70 of them. Shoulders definitely popped out.

What brass? Any misfires?

Decided to see if I could go up another .5 with 540. Shot ok and no bad signs with 26.5. My es went up 7 though. Gained about 50 fps. Tried 27. Recoil was definitely more. Looked down to see my action looking like a smoker grill primer was cratered. But I hit 2800 fps.

Going to stick with 26 even. Shoots consistently 10 in an inch. Low es/sd which I don't care too much about. But 10-11 is better than 20.

Gunna roll with this. But I'm also tinkering with staball match.

I run a 77tmk @ 2850 in mine with 8208xbr. I size with a lee collet 223rem die and the only time I've EVER had a problem was when I moved to a whidden ai die set and bumped the shoulder too far.....I separated a couple cases.

I have cases with 20 firings on them using just the lee collet and accuracy and feeding are great.
