So I decided to give this load a shot, been just using factory 223 with good success, but wanted to try this TMK. Based on the sierra manual I’m guessing round 2450~for a 16”. So question is what kind of velocities are you getting out of 16”?(tikka rifle)

I never measured mine with a chronograph, but tinkered with the speed in my ballistic app until I was on at distance. 2800 fps with a 20 inch barrel and a suppressor had me dead nuts at 870 yards.

This is what I copied with a pressure work up.

That’s a full grain over what sierra maxes out at.
I loaded up a few shot to to 22 grains, with my 16” but at 22 grains I’m only 2360~
I don’t go over book max. So even if I got up 22.5(sierra book max) I’ll still be 80-100fps slower than factory 73 elf I’ve been using.

Use what you’re comfortable with. I pressure tested mine wet at basically the warmest temps it gets for me so I’m not too worried about being over book max.

Yea I got the hodgdon book also.
77 grain is side to sierra smk. But notice 73 eld though lighter is longer, the tmk is longer than the eld.
And hodgdon says ELD is compressed at 22.6

What is h2o capacity of fire formed and sized brass?

What’s the OAL of the loaded ammo?

What’s the distance to lands of that loaded ammo?

Book maxes are typically for 2.26” loaded ammo. And probably with 28gr h2o brass. What happens when you use 30.5gr h2o brass, and load 2.5” long?

The beautiful thing about handloading is that it's totally custom and you assume your own liability. Some people only cross the street at crosswalks with lights.....some run across and some will never know what's on the other side.

Loading a 73 ELD to 2.25" COAL will cause things to get compressed fast because the bullet is so deep in the case. Load it longer if you can.
