Pay no attention to that we read your title opened your thread and should have read your question.

I have masks on 22 rifle 22 pistol 17hmr rifle and 17wsm rifle. I like them just fine and have no complaints. Hopefully huntsman22 will see this and reply. He has more experience with different good rimfire cans and will cut to the chase.

I'd go TBAC just for their great service levels. Emailed them a question the other day at 4:45 pm WY time. They replied at 5:20 pm and included a phone number if I wanted to talk to them directly at that time. They make very fine suppressors on top of that. Son has the 22 rimfire TBAC and to us it sounds very good.

I have both cans DA Mask and TBAC TD. With subsonic 22 ammo they're about the same. I keep the TBAC on my 17 HMR, and the Mask is on my CZ 22.

I have a YHM "Phantom", an AB "MELB", an AB "little Bird" and an older AAC "Cloak".

Except the slightly louder Cloak which is getting old (2002) and probably a little plugged up, they are all about the same with subsonics and (also subsonic) match ammo.

I ordered a Dead Air "Mask" in October and they lost it in transit. SilencerShop is replacing it and the new one is on it's way. The reason I added the Mask is due to it's reputation for a quieter 'first round pop' and one of my applications is typically firing one shot in an environment that requires best suppression.

Interestingly, I had shot my Mask maybe 100 times and all you hear is the click of firing pin with subsonic rounds. Then one day I was in the back yard shooting a squirrel and it sounded like a suppressed HV round. So I'm still not sure whether a HV round got into the subsonic container or what that was.

Did you shoot it agin with subs? I would think after doing something 100 times you have a good ear for what to expect. It sounds more likely to me the suppressor either broke/failed or the wrong rounds got in there. I would also think it's more likely that a supersonic round was accidentally shot than the suppressor failed after 100 rounds of subs.

Ambient air temperature affects the speed of sound and will change the threshold. Add to that the fact that some subsonics are barely under the speed of sound anyway and you will get an occasional round that exceeds the current limit just due to normal variation. Unless you have handled the ammo and/or repackaged it, it is far more likely that this is what happened than to have had an intentionally supersonic round find it's way into your box. I'd suggest trying another type of subsonic ammo.

ETA: One reason I use mainly match ammo in my suppressed rifles is to have more consistent and dependably subsonic velocities.

These are CCI Subsonic 970gr rounds, but I could see a round or two getting through with extra powder.
