Hey guys! I am looking to put together a semi custom rifle but was hoping for some input. Here’s what I have in mind, first off I want it to be the next level for my varmint gun. I love the 17 fireball, 220 swift and the 204 Ruger and now I’m interested in the 22 creedmoor because it is a ballistic twin with a 22-250 Ackley Improved. I would like to take a 60-70 grain bullet as close to 4,000 fps as I can with hand loads. Truthfully I want the heaviest bullet I can get to 4,000 fps. I am okay with a 24-26 inch threaded barrel. I know the recommended twist rate is 1:8 for 80 grain bullets. I do not know what twist would be best for my application, nor do I know if I want to deviate from the sammi of freebore. If you know anything about it, please educate me. Right now I have two ideas. First is using an aero precision action and using a profit barrel; either a proof or preferred barrel. Pros, I believe I can run a single stage trigger tech trigger (my choice of triggers). Cons, I do not believe this action is a drop in for just any R700 stock, it’s the most I want to spend on an action (sorry, no defiance today), and it does not come with a bead blasted stainless finish which is what I want. My next idea is to find a tikka 6.5 creedmoor, 22-250, or 308 and rebarrel it with a prefit barrel. Pros: cheaper, tikkas have good actions (from what I hear), I like the stocks, can find stainless models. Cons: few trigger options besides factory, less customizable it seems like. If you guys have any alternative paths (besides just buying a horizon 22 creed) let me know! Also, if you have any recommendations on a stainless model tikka that comes in those cartridges please let me know! Thanks!!

The Tikka T3X 22-250 comes twisted 1:8”

Just send the rifle off to have it rechambered to 22 Creedmoor.

Do you know which model? I was looking at a t3x superlite in 22-250 because it is stainless and it has a 22 inch barrel with a 1:14 twist. It was what I was considering rebarreling

Also have been looking into a howa 1500, I see brownells has a stainless 308 and 6.5 creed. The only thing is I have yet to find a stock I like and the barreled actions I’m interested in are currently backordered.

You are better off with a Tikka or Aero. I have both. The Tikka might feel better… The Tikka trigger turned down is crispy like a TT to me. Just can’t go down weight that far.

I also have Howa, it’s the best budget and has a nice trigger. It’s a step down from the others.

A Preferred prefit is a fantastic option. I have sold lots of 22 creed barrels and they shoot the 80 grains great.

I don’t have anything like that twist and length.

If you want me to put together a Tikka, you can spec it out and I can give you a price.

In my mind. Paying to rechamber a new rifle isn’t worth the squeeze.

There are T3X Lite, T3X Lite Compact, and T3X Lite Stainless models in 22-250 1:8” twist.

I don't think you're going to get 4,000 fps with a 70 gr bullet and 22 creed. That sounds like 22 prc territory unless you're using a crazy long barrel.

Tikka 22/250 to 22 creed conversion is super simple
