Just checking to see if anyone is reloading the 80 gr ELD-X for 22 Creedmoor on here? I've shot a few boxes of the factory ammo, and like the bullet / terminal performance I've been seeing. But the factory ammo has down 60-70 fps ES every time I've shot it... Plus the MVs are closer to 3100, than the 3300 on the box. Appreciate any insight!

Lots and lots of info on the 22 creedmoor thread. Factory eldx for 22c has not been good for most. Even reloaders have had some issues. It does seem to kill fantastic

They work great for me. Do a search for 22 Creedmoor.

I have two guns in 22 creedmoor. One is a 20 inch barrel the other a 22. My velocity is even worse. 20 inch is 2850 22inch is 3000 with factory Hornady ELD-x 80 grain. Both are Ruger Gen 2 actions one has a Odin works 22ich barrel. I don't know why mine are so slow. My chronograph works well and shows box velocity on some other calibers like 243 30-06 7mm 6.5 CM

Well just got done shooting one box of the 80GR Eld X and the velocity average was about 3240 FPS from my 24" barrel. So not to bad from their 3275FPS. So this leads me to believe their data is based on a longer barrel so if yours is shorter then you get what you get. I recommend reloading to get the maximum speed out of your setup.

They kill fantastic. They can be picky on getting them to shoot.

I’ve shot 8 or more different lots of factory precision hunter and won’t buy it anymore.

Semi-related question here: I’m considering trying the 80 ELD-X in my 8 twist 223 in the NAS3 alloy cases. I also have some added freebore to let me seat them out, as well as mags to accommodate that length.

Do you think this is something worth trying in either 5.56 brass or the alloy cases?

Edit: I forgot to add part of what I wanted to say. I know my barrel likes both of 75 and 80 ELD –M. But I’m worried it may not stabilize at my current elevation. Have you at all seen any correlation between the M and the X as far as are they the same accuracy or can a gun that likes one not like the other?

I’ve never tried it with the NAS3, I read something about those cases not being nice for reloading but could just be nonsense?

What barrel twist and what elevation?

It’s more the barrel, the lot of bullets or factory loads, more so than anything else. I’ve had barrels that shot them all fine and some that shot others well and others poorly.

In general, the 75 and 80 Ms have been easier to get to shoot than the 80 Xs and 80 Ms across multiple barrels of different twist rates.

Keep in mind that I don’t have patience for trying to “tune” a load or specific bullet barrel to barrel. There are likely guys who could get them to shoot better in my guns if they tweaked loads, seating depths, freebore, and all that boring shit that really doesn’t make a huge difference in hit rates on big game animals inside 800 yards.

After cracking a new barrel, I know whether or not it’s going to shoot certain bullets or not. Usually within the fist 50 rounds I’ll know what it’s going to do and then decide if it’s going on the practice gun or the hunting gun (I have two Tikkas of most my favorite/daily shot cartridges).

They are reloadable, but it’s a different process. I don’t know that I’m currently interested in reloading them. For 5.56 cases, they’re cheap enough that I’m willing to only fire them once used in the role of hunting loads. They’re only $0.34 per case.

8 twist factory Tikka barrel. Thing is an absolute hammer. Loves 77TMK, 75 ELD-M, and 80 ELD-M. Bought it from Ben Reynolds awhile back. He stopped running the 80 ELD-Ms in it when he had it because of a BC issue. They grouped fantastic for him, but he had to use two different BCs. One for 0-500 yards, and another for 500+. Not exactly sure why that was, but that’s what he had to do. I have not run any 80s in it since I bought it, only 77s and 75s. I just know that it shoots the 80 M well from what he told me.

Today’s DA is right around 2250’

I run 77TMK in a 24” tikka 223/556 and get 2957(phantom defense nas3 )

My 22cm is 16” and get 3027 (regular brass and loaded by choice ammunition)
