22 ARC

What length barrel and what speeds are you getting with the 88’s? I’m testing the 75’s on game this year and may try the 88’s this year or next.
It is a Balistic Advantage 20" fluted barrel with 1:7 twist. MV is 2679 and I have proven these numbers out to 400. I did not have time to go further. I shot at 100, 280 (dirt pile), 300 and 400 yards.

Wasn’t seeing much deer hunting this morning so I did some calling.
70cx factory at 3025fps, 225yds
This female came in an hour after I had stopped calling. There was a young buck at 360yds just behind the yote. With the 338ultra on he never even cared or ran off after the shot.

Shot a decent boar right at dark this evening. 255yds, 18” bbl, factory 70cx at 3025fps, impact vel. 2437fps.
He was broadside, made the shot and he took it like nothing happened. Ran 200yards through the brush in a semi circle around me. Seemed alert and was even stopping looking around before going through small openings. At this point he was probably 175yds away on the trot and I shot him again, he didn’t react to it and took off running. Looked for him for over an hour in the dark and found him 150yards away from where I shot him last on the trot. He was still alive breathing heavy. As I got close he tried to get up and I shot him with my 380pistol to finish him. I assumed something wierd happened with the shot with him still being alive. Found the entrance and it looked perfect. Found the second entrance shot and it was in the stomach. Not a drop of blood anywhere. Took me awhile to find entrance and exit holes. Split him open to see the damage, he was covered in tics. Broke through rib on both sides. A pin hole through the heart was it. Even on the exit side of the carcas it was a small bullet sized hole. No shrapnel or copper scraps. Pretty underwhelming performance compared to the 80eldms in my 22creed. Still not sure how he was alive that long with a hole in the middle of his heart but maybe with both ent./exit holes sealed up tight his blood pressure was able to stay up for awhile or something. He had some big and deep gashes from fighting 3 big ones and one was probably 10” long. With him on his back measured the width of his chest/ribs and it was 13-14” not counting the hair.

That is not typical. I have used coppers before (GMX) and they mostly open within 120yds out of a 300 blackout. But we have had a few times where the hog took 3 shots under 100 yds and still cleared more than 100 yds before falling. Same thing. Hole in, hole out, little to no expansion (300 blackout is a 223 necked up to 30 cal. It is not inherently fast. Speed kills with copper bullets.) Once the last 60 rounds are gone. We will have converted all rifles to lead core expanding "angry bullets" (as my brother calls them).

Both shots pin holed with no expansion. I’ve shot monos before but never in .224cal and never the cx line.
I’ve ran 100gr hammers at 2500fps out of a 16” 300blk out bolt gun and they killed much better than that doing way more internal damage and left good blood trails.
I’ve already rezeroed and checked drops for the factory 88s until I get chance to load up some more 77tmk handloads. I’d like to give the 70cx another chance but they should have expanded with an impact velocity of 2437fps for the first shot and 2613fps for the second. I may test them again after season but for right now I’m going to use something else that does more damage.
