I think @papwinkle has one in a Proof Elevation MTR. That looks like a nice setup. I plan on building one on a Tikka, just so it is the same as the other ones I have put together.

I do like the Ruger Americans! I have the 300 blackout, and 450 bushmaster, both of which shoot great. I would buy one in an ARC, but I’ve come to like the ease of building a Tikka.

Bought my wife a Ruger American Gen 2 22 arc and with all factory Hornady ammo, that thing is a tack driver. Havre ran it out to 600 yards and spot on with 75 eldm. Been trying to handload for it but haven't been able to get better groups then factory ammo.

The PH3 in 22 ARC was hard to beat for the money but Seekins cancelled it a couple weeks back, rolling out a 22 Creed variant in its place.

I don’t quite get why we don’t let ourselves love the Ruger American around here, especially since the Gen 2. I’m included in this.

They are unique in that they have many of the features we look for, and with so many 16”-20” versions built for suppressor use.

But alas, we hate them because they’re just pretty good for a great price.

I think they are a great value. They have their quirks, but so does a T3. They get chambered in desirable cartridges way before other mainstream brands. The two gen 1’s that I have are accurate, feed and function well, and I will probably buy a Gen 2 at some point in 22 ARC.

Agreed, they are a lot of bang for the buck. My main gripe is the lack of aftermarket stocks, and that’s about the only gripe I have

Well for a start the stock is the worst piece of shit ever, Ruger had the design right 50 years ago and even into the first generation American and someone decided to step backwards a century.
Trigger is an abomination, they had a great one 50 years ago too.
There is so much potential there , what happened?

I have never shot an American that had a trigger anywhere close to as bad as the old m77s i have shot.

My M77 Mark II trigger was 6lbs! Both of my Gen 1 Americans adjusted to about 3.5lbs

Agree on both points. I bought the 20" in 22 Arc. I could tell it was a shooter but the stock and trigger both have to go. Put in an timney and it's a world better than the factory. Stock selection is limited and most will push you into AICS pattern mags. KRG bravo is probably best choice currently.

Will be interested to see if Jim at Backfire puts his chassis out for the american lineup and how quickly.

I'd love a tikka in 22 and 6 arc. Will most likely go that route with @hereinaz. He's having bolts done by kampfield if i'm not mistaken.
Just curious about mag compatibility and best path there.

Challenge with the Ruger is once you upgrade to make it consistently usable you doubled the cost of the rifle.
I don’t understand why Ruger doesn’t offer a premium upgrade for an out the door price under $1000. There is a market for it. They just don’t want to play.

This is what I was going to say. I probably would have bought one by now if Stockys made a VG for it.

I was considering buying a 3rd RA and had the same thought. Called Stockys two weeks ago. They let me know real quick there were no plans to build a VG for the American.
