Doing some load development for a buddy and it’s a 20in plus can barrel and a short action. I’m going to run some 140 class bullets and lapua brass. What mostly temp stable will give the best velocity? I’ve read a ton and seems like N560 is king with this combo, but also I believe it’s not as temp stable as N565 or H1000. So I’m guessing N565 or H1000 is going to be best. Does one over the other win for this combo? LR or magnum primers? I’m pretty sure both work well? I’be read a ton and hoping there’s some more people that have had similar setups now instead of posts from a few years ago that might not have everybody chimed in.

Thanks

58 grains of H1000 with a 147 was a good place to start in my Sauer, the 24 inch barrel gave 2780 when new
I have since worked up to 60 grains, but the Sauer is a long action and throated quite long, so on a short action I would probably start at 56

143 ELD-X - N565 and H1000 were really close in velocity, but N565 was a bit faster and grouped notably tighter. Temp factor trued out to .77fps/1°F in my AB profile in a Sig Kilo 5K, tested from 29-88°F with ADG brass, and a Rem 9 ½ LR primer. AVG MV 2890fps out of a 21 ½" chopped factory Tikka barrel with a Nomad Ti.

Maybe, maybe not, but that is really pushing it.

I know him to run everything very spicy. He works up to sticky bolt then backs off a grain and works around there. Not my preferred method, but it works for him. He doesn't settle until it's sub 1/2" consistently.
