In December we (Montana) were almost green and blue (at or above normal) for the entire state. Then came January w/ one of the lowest snow totals across the state for nearly century (and well above temperatures). Early February started the same, but recently got some much needed snow (and couple with cooler temps), so things are looking better.

I know a lot of the western states are hurting too.

Here we are as of yesterday—could be better, but could be worse too.

Getting a few good inches of very wet snow last night has me hopeful as this weather pattern in the ocean changes we will get one of the springs that dumps the snow. 5 years ago we had almost nothing till february and then got 3 feet in one march storm.

We got 3 ft of snow in sept one year. By elk season it melted off. I remember one feb in the 90s when it was warm while I changed front brake pads. In March we got 3 ft of wet snow.

The winter is not done yet. The time to reflect on the winter is July. Then we can bitch about the heat.
Hopefully winter is just getting started here in Oregon!

Pathetic here in New Mexico, the little snow we had was melting quickly with weather in the 60s for a week.

Little snow here and there this week but warm weather again for an extended period in a few days!

Still driving and walking without snowshoes where there should be 2-8 feet of snow right now. Glad I didn’t decide to waste money on trying to kill wolves as they simply haven’t been low down in the areas they’ve been every winter the previous years.

Still waiting for an elk migration in the area I frequent. Hasn’t happened and don’t think it will. Highest elevation I’ve found a fresh white tail shed in a road this winter was 5200’ which is pretty high elevation for this part of Idaho. Most of the white tail didn’t bother to migrate either.

Not so good next door either. Elk country is piss poor but the Strip and Kaibab are doing a little better.

The Central Sierra Snow Lab near Donner Summit got 94” over the past four days with another 12”-16” expected today. Until this latest series of storms it hadn’t done much since late December. The last couple of chukar hunts I did I looked at a couple of dry guzzlers and the fall green up was starting to dry out. I’m sure it’s all covered in snow now.

Got some good snow here in Southern Utah the last 2 days, (6k ft) more expected tonight. There was even a nice dusting down in the desert at St. George at 3k feet. Beautiful.

I never worry about snow pack until run off is over. Even those years we historically start getting rains. That said I love snow and winter, we are currently getting snow in SW Colorado. Looks to be about 5-6 inches on my porch.

According to snotel we are above average for moisture and below average for snowpack. A few decent storms the next month or two should keep us out of drought conditions for the year.
