2026 Rokslide World Cup Thread

If soccer paid more than football or basketball, and carried the same social clout as football or basketball, you’d see much better athletes playing soccer instead of football or basketball.

The U.S. would win the World Cup with boring regularity.
Clout has nothing to do with it. I played both. I played soccer through college and coached for years. If soccer development programs/clubs/leagues in the USA were like they are in England and most of Europe the USA would win the World Cup. But, never with "boring regularity." Brazil doesn't win it with regularity and most Americans think they do. Hell Italy hasn't qualified the last 2 tournaments and they have won it 4 times. There is a lot more going on than the average American perceives.

This. People don't realize that we don't have an athletic talent problem in soccer, but a development problem.

Huge Arsenal fan here. Went to the Portugal v Congo game in Houston earlier this month. 10/10 atmosphere and overall experience, 5/10 gameplay. Also got to see Messi score at the Rapids v Miami game twice (one open play, one PK) earlier this year, then saw Ronaldo touch the ball a handful of times at the Portugal game. Been really fun to watch the games. France and Argentina seem to be the most dominant at this point in the tournament, followed by England. Spain and Portugal have been a disappointment. USA playing much better than expected.
