2026 Grizzly/ Brown Bear hunt….who's going?

Big brown bears are easier to kill than small ones. Sounds weird but it’s been true for my experience. For some reason smaller (8’ and under) bears tend to go crazy when shot. Bigger bears seem to go into slow motion…confused and trying to figure it out. But no bear ever has yelled or complained about muzzle velocity or energy, ballistic charts, bullet weights. Only thing is we have shot a few with Berger bullets and I swore I heard them laugh at loud…
Jake, your one caliber one bullet would be….?

Just got back from Kodiak with my boys bear tag still in our pocket. Six days of crap weather. One beautiful day and 10 days of crap weather in the coming Forcast. We snuck out on a 500’ ceiling and rainy day. We saw zero bears. First spring trip to Kodiak in several decades with no bear. A cabin has been built in the bay and it feels more civilized than before as well.

One caliber one bullet.
.30-‘06 and 180gr tsx.

It will do everything without question.

Man that sucks. Do you think the lack of bears is due to the late winter / spring? Bears still in the dens?

There looked like there was no winter. There was no snow. The deer didn’t winter on the beaches they wintered up in the hills.

Bad weather was likely it. Kodiak isn’t a great hunt per se. I’ve gone 13 days and not seen a bear and I’ve seen 30 in a day. It’s hit or miss down there. Some guys knock one down right away other guys it takes several trips to find any.

But typically if you have 10-14 days and some good weather in there you will at least see something. We just didn’t have the weather for seeing…lol
