What are some of y’all’s goals for 2026? I saw a guy in the plus 60 club who tries to get in as many miles a year as the year. Which inspired me to ask this question.

Writing them down is the first step!
Cheers

Doing my first trip out west. WY region A for deer. 27hour drive from the Atlantic ocean - hopefully see and have a chance at a mule deer, but overall just enjoy the journey along the way and be happy Im even able to experience the opportunity.

I shot my bow consistently for 6 weeks prior to my Bison hunt and had a blast with it. Put together a pretty good group out to 115 yards too. I want to continue to shoot my bow more. I’d like to shoot a 300 with my hunting rig. I’ve only ever shot indoor once that I randomly stumbled into, was a fundraiser. Shot a 267 but the indoor guys said that was a harder/smaller target. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Heard this goal from a guy on a podcast and I think I want to add it to my 2026 goals. Not sure how long it will take, but just need to put more time behind the riser! I did hear one local target guy tell me he’s never shot a 300 either. So I assume it’s pretty tough!

I would also like to run a marathon again. Ran my first in 2025. I just felt really good. I was trimmer, sleeping and eating generally better.

You can fake many things in life but you can’t fake being a good runner or a good Archer. 🏹

Punch my first bear tag. Found a beautiful color phase this past fall and couldn’t close the deal. We will see if he is in the same area come spring!
I killed my first last fall! It’s extremely special when you have 1 animal picked out and you get that 1. Happened like that for my Dall Sheep. I passed on him the year before, he was legal on age but not full curl. Went back in the next year and got him. Extremely special feeling! Good luck. From my experience that color phase will be around. Maybe not that exact drainage but close.

AK moose with my dad. Just want to enjoy every second of the hunt as it’ll likely be the only time him and I ever get to do this one specifically.

I’m 65. I already have a black bear hunt booked in Ontario in 2026. Have a Roosevelt archery elk hunt booked in Oregon September. Also have a Kansas whitetail hunt booked for November. Hope I draw Antelope in my home state. Also have my general deer and elk tags. I’m also going to hit the water fly fishing this spring. Probably bait bears in my home state this fall.

Plus 60 years old. My goal is to stay alive and be healthy enough to chase a young German Wirehair around looking for chukar next year. If I’m able to do that everything else will take care of itself.

The fun 2026 Goals:
  • Help wife get her first turkey and elk.
  • Travel to either Europe or somewhere else for a week trip.
  • Kill my first bull elk (I will hold this loosely and will kill a cow again if the opportunity arises.)
  • Participate in another ultra run or mtb race.
  • Build my first AR

More important 2026 goals that will easily be kicked to the side if I get to greedy with the fun goals:

  • Work on health stuff that I keep putting off.
  • Make more of an effort to help my wife with her needs and wants. I am pretty selfish with my hobbies!
  • I'd like to be consistent with spiritual practices and generally practicing the presence of God.
    • In my eyes I believe one of the most important spiritual practices to be 'love others' - maybe I need to volunteer somewhere or something. Not completely sure the way forward. But prayer in solitude will likely be a step in the right direction.
  • Putting Europe trip down here again, haha. Wife grew up there and we need to go back for her sake (oh, darn!).

61 here so semi-retire next year. For 2026. get as many multi season tags in both Idaho and Utah as I can. Dear, Elk, Bear, Antelope, etc. As long as I end up in the wilderness, I will be happy. For, 2027 will try to expand to Montana and Wyoming.

Hunting and shooting goals: Getting into PRS this year. Hope to compete well and learn a lot. Goals for turkey season are to fill some tags in state and on an out of state hunt. Finally, draw a elk or mule deer tag for NM or CO and get to hunt with family this fall out there.

Health goals are to continue to bulk up and get stronger, go into fall in great rucking shape.

Spiritual goals: Continue to plug in to a men's ministry, keep learning, keep growing, give generously with both time and money.

Family goals: Be the best father and husband I can be. Teach my oldest how to handle a firearm safely this year. Finish one parenting book I'm reading right now and then read The Intentional Father. Have more patience and distinguish between the time for corrective words and the time for corrective discipline. Spend more quality time with my wonderful wife.

1.) Finish reading the Bible straight through. This will get done, doing Ezra Journey with a group from Church. Just finished Numbers, on to Deuteronomy.

2.) Get back to goal weight of 220 lbs of twisted steel and sex appeal. 15 lbs to go. Look out! Wife can't keep her hands off me. But then again, I should probably stop back-talking her.....

3.) Get serious about my own clinic, whether buying an existing one out or starting my own. Corporate Clinic is for the birds, complacent/apathetic colleagues, autonomy getting smaller and smaller. Increased number of vets in the clinic has decreased my take home by close to 20% compared to last year. This last quarter has been slow though.

Hunting goals for this year:26-27 Shoot my first scoreable (120”) deer. Growing up in SC I have been blessed to harvest what was available for meat on the table and now I have had the opportunity in recent years to do more antler hunting of truly great bucks. Also would like to kill other types of ducks besides wood ducks. I’ve killed one mallard and some scoters but would like something different.

Husband/Father. I wanna be a commendable man whose life mirrors and follows the example Jesus set for me. I want my family to see Him through me and to set an example worthy of their love and affection.

For last, I have been blessed to be able to work with the less fortunate over the last couple of years giving out blessing bags as I call them and jackets or whatever is needed. I’m praying about opening a small business or whatever I would call it that works regularly with processors and local food banks to provide hunters opportunities to donate venison, pork, etc to help feed those in need.
