2026 Arrow Setup

Heat vanes are awesome. Really quiet. I shoot them (3 fletch offset) with mechanicals (Grim Reaper and G5 T2s). I struggle with fixed heads unless running 4 fletch helical. Bohning Alpha vanes (3 fletch helical) work great for fixed blades out of my setup.

That’s good to hear. What’s your arrow weight and what poundage are you shooting?

I have used 3 and 4 vane configs with the heats. Have ended up with the 4 vane with some offset for past 4 seasons with excellent results, I have no reason to change other than I like messing with stuff. Quiet. durable, provides nice clearance. Lots to love. No trouble shooting multiple mechanicals and vented fixed out to triple digit yardages. Solid 2 blades they also work. Although, if that was my go to head I would likely use a different config.
3 fletch was only OK imo. It works for mechanical and some fixed heads but was to finicky for my preference. Setups had to be perfect or they got wobbly.

I shoot a similar bow setup to you 80sih pounds and 28.5 DL. I generally setup up arrow weights to hit the 285 to 295 window.

As far as arrows go I can get away with 300 and bounce between them and 250. I cut short as possible and don't over load the front. Have shot the 5.0 with good results and the FMJ max. The FMJ build in 300 spine comes in at a little closer to my target weight for speed without softening the spine so used them this past season and really liked them. If doing 250 spine I would look hard at two options the Axis LR 4mm you mentioned and the RIP TKO from victory. If doing the 4mm the Podium titanium inserts are a good upgrade.

I appreciate the reply. I plan on hunting elk and whitetail this year. I shot the Easton Axis 5mm last year and all in was around 560 grains. I want to go a little lighter this year, and am curious about the Easton 4mm long range with the heat vanes, but from what I’ve read, I don’t know how well that will workout with broadheads. I’ve always ran 3 fletch, but I’m not necessarily against 4 fletch.

Not until you 4 fletch arrows…takes a lot longer and is not fun IMO. I just want to shoot. If shooting fixed id try a 4 fletch for heat vanes. 3 fletch heat worked okay but not most forgiving. Your bow better be tuned and you need to be damn consistent. DCA vanes didn’t stick well for me and was not any quieter than AAE hybrid 26.

If you shoot DCA or TAC vanes - primer and don’t wait to apply glue -

I got sick of replacing arrows that have a very slight bend in the insert after punching through targets and touching my backstop - since I will shoot every day I went with something that I won’t have to replace -

Rip TKO - podium titanium inserts, DCA vanes 2.5/degree offset - since I shoot expendables I go with the mini .. those fletching have great memory and they stick very very well if applied right .

That’s some really good info. I appreciate it. I’m 95% sure I’m going to be trying out the 4 fletch heats, Axis LR 4mm, and the Sevr 1.75 hybrid broadhead. Tuning will be key, but that’s the initial setup I my head right now
