2025 Turkey harvest pics

Well, missed a nice tom right off this morning, and then called this Jake in awhile later. Wish I wouldn’t have because I wanted to keep hunting, but I have 2 more tags, so I’m glad I’m on the board.

Drove 7hrs over here yesterday, and I have until midday Friday, no more jakes. I sure like hunting these birds and turkey camping with nobody around

Hevi-Shot magnum blend out of my ugly 12ga nova.

My 10 yr old daughter’s first bird. Stevens .410 with browning #9’s tss. Chased birds all day long but they just wouldn’t give her a shot. They stayed tucked in tight in the thick brush but would respond well and come in to 20 yds. This one finally came in when we called in the hen. Special youth draw with only 5 tags.

Got my first Rio this morning. It checked all the boxes, lots of gobbles, strutted on his way in, spit drumming right beside me, and to top it off he walked right into my barrel without me having to move anything but my trigger finger.

I could have doubled on his buddy but intentionally left my other tag at home to make sure I didn’t get carried away and end my season on opening day. Now I get spend the next month frustrated as hell trying to fill that second tag. IMG_8553.jpeg

Nebraska bird with a Beretta 20 gauge and Apex 9 shot at 25 yards. Strutted in from 200 out to a strutting Jake decoy and a DSD hen with a little calling. I made the Jake a motion decoy where the fan moves on a hinge with spring to go from passive to aggressive and he was on a rope when he saw that. IMG_6969.jpeg

Well, I wore out my welcome in merriams country😏

10.5yds according to my rangefinder, same gun and load as yesterday

I have not killed 2 in a year, so I’m pretty happy with back to back days. Cuts my trip short, but that’s ok, I will get to see my family sooner. Pretty fun trip!

Older (I think) Merriams. 9 1/8" Beard. NO SPURS. 17.3 pounds.

Birds aren't super fired up in my area just yet. This guy came in strutting to a hen call, slowlyyyy. He didn't gobble a single time.
It’s not unusual for merriams to have no spurs, mine today had nubs. They are always blunt at least here. Their beards can be short too, I think they freeze off sometimes. The biggest beard I have seen on the birds I hunt is 9”, my bird today you can see where it’s all messed up on the end. It’s thick, but short

Nice bird! They sure are beautiful birds

Yeah all of mine in the past have at least at jake nub spurs or at least shorties. This is my first bird with nothing. Also definitely most of my birds have beard rot or frozen off beards.

Gosh I love these birds. Great work on getting them on back to back days. Hope you can still get out in another state the rest of the season.

Mine had beard rot also which I run into a lot in Nebraska. Also short spurs but full fan. I never even thought to look at the beard until he was down…then a few mins after that. He was in strut the entire time and I just assumed 2-3 yr old bird.
