If a guy were starting from scratch, would best play be to get a standard single pull, fat trimmer, R3d legs? The lightweight model seems like almost the same cost premium as just getting a fat trimmer. Am I missing anything?

Also.. what downsides are there to picking up a g1 on the cheap(er) from classifieds?

The allure of the Ckye pod for competition is not having to mess with twist locks. I do like the sound of the lock out though, definitely inadvertently extended legs dragging them on rocks or barricades when moving. It usually winds up with me literally tossing my expensive bipod at some point during a stage.

I just received my R3 legs and will be putting them on a LW single with the Fat Trimmer mod.

20 oz. for the single with R3 legs which is 2 oz. less than the LW double on my scale. Both have the Fat Trimmer.

G1 doesnt have any ability to lock out pan, but is irrelevant if youre planning on switching the head out anyway. Besides that, I dont see any downside. Thats what I did.

Standard single pull is going to be a few oz heavier than a lightweight single pull as the donor. But does 2-3oz really hurt? I happen to have a lightweight double so it's getting the carbon legs, fat trimmer and rrs BTC pro clamp.

I personally prefer the very early production ckyepod from when Ckye Thomas built them. His fit and finish was better than MDT. This was prior to gen1. There is zero markings saying mdt and the aluminum is anodized with a slight hint of a very dark gray copperish color not the black of mdt. I have a heavy single and prs length of the old production, my lightweight single double and triple are all mdt of course.

…. I've seen people run 3d printed clips to offset the legs from the first locked position, so they can extend them as they currently do.

Do you know where i can look at/ buy these 3d printed clips

Those are custom made and only useful on the prototypes. They keep the legs from locking so that you can run it like the current version where the legs just pull right out. On the prototypes, you have press each lever to extend each section. The printed clips lock out the lockout.

That would probably be the route to go, or get the lightweight single pull then you have an extra set of “short lightweight legs” if you’d prefer that for hunting. I can weigh it, but i think the lightweight head is about the same weight as the regular head with fat trimmer. Bummer with the light being that it does have pan, though if you tighten the piss out of it it will almost lock it out.

I think there’s a way to drill and pin it to lock it up. May need some JB weld to keep it in

Next question I have is, for those using red dots mounted to your scope, what is your setup?

I have a spuhr mount with a red dot on my PRS rig, but I think it would be pretty hefty using that on my nrl rifle
