2025 NRL Hunter

I am shooting skills division in WI. This will be my first match of any kind. It sounds like people recommend bring 100-120 rounds? I handload and currently have 100 rounds. I don't really have a need for more brass beyond this competition. Should I buy more?

You have plenty. As a new shooter, you're just not gonna have time to get off 8 rounds every stage.

10 rounds to shoot PF and confirm dope, then 90 for the match is plenty.

Man that is a tough one. Shooting skills, you don’t need to shoot the whole match but I would imagine you would run out of ammo. So that is up to you… is it worth not shooting g the last 3-4 stages?

Yea I’d just buy some factory ammo shoot it white your handled zero figure out the offset and update your calculator when you shoot that ammo or just make the adjustments mechanically on the scope.

I would buy more, if it's like any of the matches I’ve been to they’ll have steel set up to shoot before the match (on check-in day) and after the squads have gone through the course of fire the first day. I typically take 150-200 rounds for my match rifle and then another rifle to mess with. I’ve never wished I hadn’t taken the extra ammo or extra rifle.

Anyone shooting Laramie get Collins email about the backpack “class”

“The caveat to this sub-class is that your full kit will be weighed at check in and must be 27.0 lbs or less. The list of items NOT included in weight is: clothing layers on your person at the start of the day, ammo, food and water for the day. That means everything including your pack weight, tripod, glass, shooting supports/bags, magazines and rifle weight will be counted. We will tag your rifle as normal for division plus give you a backpack tag for the Backpack Hunter class.”

I hope this just becomes its own class.

It will be a lot easier for the open light class guys. I don't think I am going to make it under 27lbs.

Headed to Alabama for my second of the year. Rain, why rain? It's a whole different process in the rain.

Eh, passing showers. I hope thats it anyway. It will likely be a biblical amount of rain because of my optimism for dryness.

I shot a match in NE where there was 3" of standing water at stages many of which were prone. I discovered quickly that all my methods of keeping track of dope do not work in the rain. I've had an aversion to any rain since then.

Side topic, @ChrisAU, I assume the AU in your name is for Auburn? I'm headed into enemy territory so close to Tuscaloosa!

Yes sir it is, I visit Tuscaloosa fairly often so it won’t be too bad. I’ll be quick to blame my poor performance on being in such close proximity to that place though ha!
