Is the blood from a head shot or from a tumble after the shot?I didn’t see a thread for everyone to post this years mountain goats, and I don’t think my hunts deserve their own threads.
I’d love to see everyone else’s billys.View attachment 941803
That is blood from a headshot. He didn’t move at all from where he was bedded when I shot him.Is the blood from a head shot or from a tumble after the shot?
Yes they do.... that thing is a hammer! Congrats!
Awesome goat. Bob and Bob are the best out there for goats.I got mine in Northern BC with Milligan Outfitters. These guys are great and they put up with a guy that really struggled up there. About 40 minutes into the pack out I broke my tib/fib and had to be airlifted off the mountain the next day. It was a rough night on the mountain and I probably would not have made it off without Bobby, Logan and Bob. These guys were put into a bad situation and rose to the occasion. Thanks guys!
That's a sweet goat.
Did you know it was a nanny when you took it?![]()

Did you know it was a nanny when you took it?
I've spoken with a few people who took nannies this year and they were all uncertain of the sex of the animal that they were taking. Everyone who took a billy knew they were taking a billy. No one has knowingly taken a nanny.
If you knew it was a nanny, why did you shoot it?For this one yes. I watched her for about an hour, and saw her squat. She ended up having 7 in horns and I was very happy with her coat. This will be the last time I do a goat solo, I shot her at 360 yards on a high angle shot, and she dropped right there. Took me two hours to get to her, and four hours to get back out. Was almost a bit too much by myself, but made it happen

Well done filing your tag and aligning with conservation goals of your state. She has a beautiful cape on her.I had a nanny tag. I’ll remove the post.

Interestingly, nannies are not discouraged in some areas of Kodiak for RG480 per the regs and my chat with the biologists. The regs allow taking of two goats and one MUST be a nanny. The population of non-native goats (both sexes) is high after a few mild winters, and the season has been extended as a result.Repost it.
You had a nanny tag. We’re hunters, not biologists. Do what the conservation organization of your area deems sustainable.
I’ve never heard of a nanny only tag. What rules pertain to that hunt?
The way tags work in my part of Alaska is that “encouraging of Billies is encouraged, taking of nanny’s with kids is prohibited.” In some areas if you shoot a nanny you go to “nanny jail” and you can’t hunt goats in that unit again for 5 years. In other areas nanny’s are discouraged but there’s no nanny jail.
