On a wide open hillside in plain view, yes. Ive killed plenty of animals sub 20 where terrain allows, so I dont feel bad about stretching it out now and then.

Another Alberta general tag. It was starting to rain and nearing sundown so we were packing up the quads. We turn around and lo and behold a bull stepped out from the bush. We silently scrambled to get back setup to take the shot. Bam .270 straight through the lungs from around 300 yards. Bull runs about 50 yards and collapses. The funny thing is we we actually sitting there looking for a black bear but brought elk tags just in case

It happened. The wife and I doubled up.

My archery season was cut short this year after hitting a deer with my truck which took it out of commission. My back-up truck is kind of a POS, so I dont trust it on longer adventures. So I stole the wife's 4runner and took off three days before the rifle opener.
Two days before the opener I found a bull about three miles away. I couldn't really make out his true size from that distance, but that evening the sun hit him just right and showed off his tine length. The following day I was back on my knob and picked him and the cows up about a mile from where they were the night before and a little closer. I had yet to see anyone in the area but knew how chaotic openers are, and rightfully so.

On opening morning an outfitter spooked every elk in the drainage within 30 minutes of shooting light. Luckily I got a quick glimpse of the herd rolling into a coulee and I took off to try and intercept them. Luckily I picked the right route and caught them at 350 yards.

I just got home this evening after a week and a half at elk camp. Hunting was tough. There was a lot of high impact hunting pressure but I managed to fill my tag. Oregon public land.

Last day of 3rd rifle and after bumping a bigger bull in the morning this Unicorn gave me a broadside shot at 120 yds.

@kswaterfowl and I punched our cow tags simultaneously Tuesday in Wyoming on elk that think they are antelope. He dropped his with one shot at 658 yards with his 6 Creed and 108 ELDMs. I broke the shoulder and took out the heart on mine at 610, but I kept shooting until she was down. Put one more in the lungs and another in her neck. 147 ELDM out of my 6.5 PRC.

Definitely something to be proud of! Being solo were you doing any calling on your own or just trying to get in close and/or cut him off?

Definitely called during the 9 days but my success came via spot and stalk. Spotted him and he piped off a couple times to help me get close. I was able to close the final distance because he went to town raking. Cut distance to 30, he went the only way I didn't have a window and then started side hilling at around 50, didn't have time to range, and was able to find the smallest of windows to send an arrow.
