2025 elk meat pole

I did a solo horseback hunt. Went in 32 miles from the trailhead. Called in this 6x6. Shot it from about 60 yards with a Kimber 6.5CM and 147's. It was still on it's feet after the first shot, so I hit it again. Two double lung shots. It went about 20 yards.

1st bull. MT public land archery general tag.

Bit of a rodeo, came to full draw and the arrow popped off the string... had to fix that while he was looking at me. Broadhead still on the arrow rest and the knock resting on top of my bino harness.....
suboptimal.

Luckily he was ready to fight my friend who was calling for me so he wasn't that worried about me fixing myself.
Got the first arrow in him, 35 yards, was a little far back (ended up thru the offside lung), he took a couple steps and i was able to stop him with a yelp and shoot again, second arrow double lung. He went about 60 yards and tipped over.

that's the way it generally goes for me good job at overcoming adversity. congrats

Not the biggest on my wall but my freezer is full. Solo muzzleloader. For a draw unit I ran into a lot of hunters the first few days and zero animals. End of the hunt provided less hunters and a bull that finally wanted play. 22 yd frontal and maybe went 50. Pack outs are comical type2 fun. Especially solo. Wouldn’t change anything about the hunt.

Type 2? I'd say type 3!

Shot this bull Monday at 812 yards from the top of the canyon rim in the background. 280AI 162 eldx. Glassed him at 1800 yds and 800 was as close as we could get. Awesome hunt.
