2025 CA Results are up...

I drew G1. 2 friends drew elk tags, one in the marbles, which I helped pack out my brother in laws bull last year from there so have some good intel. And a buddies daughter drew northeastern either sex. Hopefully I can help out on both!

D-8 third choice, will add bear tag. Gonna be in B1 first week of archery so might grab that but the last thing I want to do is put together a bow and quiver between now and then

I struck out on the draw for the highly desired tags, but I got a not very competitive D3-D5 buck deer tag, as well an OTC bear tag.

I plan to try backpack hunting the Desolation Wilderness area when the season opens and hopefully bring back either some venison or bear meat.

It is going to be a busy fall of hunting for me, I got an antelope tag in Nevada in early September, the Cali hunt I want to do opens in late September, and I'm also going antelope hunting in Wyoming in October.

...and dove season starts in September and quail/chukar starts in mid-October where I live.

I just backpacked deso last weekend. There was a fair amount of snow at some of the lakes and ridges up there. Lots of people up there, felt like I couldnt find a place to take a leak without staring at another person.

Yikes, I've not been there yet. I def want a place not too crowded.

I guess the name "desolation wilderness" is no longer accurate?

Did you see any bucks or bears?

I may instead go farther north, like the Trinity Alps, supposed to be a good population of bears up there though I've not yet been there either.

My son (19) drew his first Ca draw tag! X6A. He's excited to have his first draw tag in hand and is already setting realistic expectations which is great to see. We haven't hunted that unit before but with all the fire activity there recently I have some lay of the land. We'll put in some good scouting time prior to the opener. My hope is just for a successful hunt and to see him have fun.
He's seen his sister have good success in another X zone for deer and a successful antelope hunt in Nevada so he's ready for his turn.
Good luck everyone!

Nice that should be a really fun hunt if you get some weather would love to hear how it goes as I’m sittin with a lot of points but not max so kinda in no man’s land lol
Yeah I wish I had the points, mostly because it was my backyard for many years and I’ve spent a ton of time watching bucks on the winter range and picking up sheds in the hunt area. If it’s super dry/no weather it could be a little tougher to find a big mature buck but there’s potential for a super fun hunt for sure.
