2025/2026 Trapping season.

I'm trying something new for bait.

The directions imply the meat should be a little rotten.

I need some now so I went for it with fresh meat and made a 1/4 batch.

It seems like one set of Dobbins Bait Solution will treat around 8-10 lbs of meat.

I'll update if it continues to break down or rot over the next few weeks.

The directions didn't specify whether to store it at room temp or the fridge while it cures. They do say stir for 2-3 weeks. I went to town kneading with nitrile gloves and the meat is double ground so I think the sodium benzoate is about as mixed as it's going to get.

Ballsy to do this in the kitchen. My wife has a nose like an airport dog.

The solution was too full to shake so the first batch just got the juicy top layer. The rest is still liquid tho.

Here's a solid coon bait.

Kitten chow
Liquid smoke
Dollar store vanilla

The Minnesota Brand Smoky Nuggets containers are a perfect size to slide in your front pocket so I keep them and refill them.

Thats exactly how I expect to encounter possums. I must not be threatening enough for them to play dead. They usually play snarling, hissing beast.

2 males; one a color phase.

A steal on canines I think it was the bigger coon. Trap was right next to what he hit.

Picked up a opossum today. I wanted a coyote for Christmas.

The 49 trail cam photos we got from the set area validates that 4 coil traps and the pan weight cut down on nuisance catches. Another opossum worked a canine set for a long time last night and didn't trip the pan. You can see the other opossum behind it in a dogproof trap.

@Nine Banger, your observation is the exact same as mine. I don't have many 2 coil traps, but I'm selling the few I have this spring and going all 4 coil for that very reason.

Pulled out about 12 pounds of bait out of the freezer this morng to thaw for Marten boxes. I'll be putting them out the first week of January.

Been putting up fur for auction, getting some prepped to tan, and cleaning up some skulls for personal display.

Good luck to everyone and stay safe out there!
