I've been setting a goal of racking up trail miles to equal the year; this is the 5th or 6th year of doing so. I hit that goal yesterday :)

Most of those of miles come from a near daily hike with my dog on our single track trails near town. A good chunk is racked up during hunting season, the rest of it is from backpacking trip scattered throughout the year. To hit that goal I have to average 5.55 miles/day, 38.9 miles/week and ~ 168.6 miles/month. Looking back, I think I've missed no more than 5-7 days the entire year. The shortest hike around 3 miles, the longest around 30 miles.

My wife joins me on a lot of hikes, but my most regular partner is my dog, Tiny Elvis—all 12 lbs of him :D I keep track of his mileage on a calendar and he's going to hit 1300 miles this year :D

Here's to a New Year of more memories!

Thanks!

Color me impressed, doesn’t leave much time to get sick or travel with those daily goals. Congrats
Discipline

Being fully retired doesn't hurt either :D

Pretty neat goal. Tough one to keep up on as the years / miles go up so does age. I like it.

I'm trying to figure out how to go about a goal that gets a little easier as the age goes up, but I'll I seem to come with has complicated math :ROFLMAO:

Impressive! I figure my horse miles are some place around 500 including the trails and roads I cut out so I have places to hunt without rzrs.

There just isn't enough time to put up hay, ranch and cut wood and still ride. Your hiking is for all of us.

Congrats on achieving your goal for this year and doing it with those you love. You are the walking gear review, lol.

Two questions for you: Do you utilize snowshoes for any winter hikes and if so, what style or length has worked the best for you? I used to use the military magnesium snowshoes in AK but they have that long tail section that my dog used to trip me with many times, lol.
Second question is , what breed of dog is little Elvis? His cardio condition must be stellar!

My go to snowshoe is the MSR Evo, I have the optional tails if the snow is powdery.

He’s a “chorkie”- chihuahua-yorkshire cross. He’s in pretty darn good shape; absolutely crushes me on the uphills :D

Mike-

Stud numbers man!!

They have an Evo trail, ascent, and explore. Which do you find the best for hiking? We are in similar zones/weather/terrain. Thanks

Why do that? Acting old is a sure way to become old. At 90 we will let you switch to the year in kilometers rather than miles.

Nice work, you got most of use young guys beat.
