Thank you TB! A full freezer for our long winters is a really good thing as you know well!

There is only one thing better...a full wood-shed for the wood stove!! My wife and I worked all day yesterday splitting birch and getting it stacked. Let it snow (and it's going to LOL!!).

The sled that I use (pictured) is extremely well designed and constructed of very durable materials. As mentioned, I have used it the past four years and it is still going strong and will likely out-live me LOL!!. Be warned, it isn't cheap, but I have no regrets whatsoever in buying it. I used a cheap roll-up sled for a couple of years, but it was a PITA pulling loads over the tundra. I tried lots of different ways of securing the load to the pull cord, but it always formed a point in the front of sled that dug into the tundra, and the sled would roll-up length wise like a sausage and roll as I pulled it.

Congrats on a good hunt for both you and your son. We recently moved back to Alaska and I need a sled like that. Something else to add to my list of stuff I need to order along with the Arctic oven tent and titanium wood stove.
What unit did you guys hunt? 18?

Thanks for the rut report! I had similar experience in 2021 and 2023. After the 15th or so we could only call in smaller bulls. Mondo bulls would peek out with their cows, but had no interest in leaving them! Seems like high population areas those big guys already have several cows gathered by mid month and it’s hard to divert them.

I agree with your observations...once those dominant bulls get on cows, they don't typically come to calls. Rut is a progression for sure.

That said, I've seen a few exceptions over the years. The 64" I took two years ago already had six cows, but he came 150yds to get a closer look at me...and all I did was stand up when I got out of my tent that morning...hadn't even called yet...but I did pitch my tent on a bedding area !!!

The other thing about calling satellite bulls...pretty good sized bulls do come if they just got kicked off their cows by a bigger guy. The bull in my avatar (55") was just kicked off his cows...the bent and broken tines tell his story.
