Miserable here. Four day weekend and I couldn't go hunting. It was too cold. Got dogs out for about an hour yesterday and couple hours today. Brutal, so cold it hurt.

Final bird of the 2023-24 season which ended 12-Jan-2024 here in Montana.

I shot more geese than ducks and more pheasants than anything.
Pup got to hunt 51 times (retired and living the dream).
Zero lost birds this past season which always my goal.

Jake got to go on his first duck hunt this morning. Heck of a first season under his belt dove, quail, pheasant, and got to track a couple of deer and pigs.

Likely the last hurrah. Brutal conditions, negative temps with high wind. 30 inches of snow. We managed a few. Little dog coming along, shot a few over her holding points. Most of these shot over points. Didn't take a lot of pictures, it was too cold.

Docc got after it this year. First goose retrieve, and more pheasants and sharptail than I’ve ever gotten into before!

Flew the pup out of Alaska to Kansas the last couple weeks. We had to take about five days off in the middle because of temps. Just didn’t feel great about breaking up coveys. Made for some good family time though. Three year old ESS Ada did great! Flush of the trip came on the last walk just before sundown. Wiley old rooster was burrowed in a thick kochia patch completely drifted over in snow. Ada circled a few times but couldn’t find a way in. I’d gone past and was starting to call her off thinking it was another cottontail. She worked her way on top of the clump of brush and finally he came shooting out directly beneath her. I swung around and connected. Pretty special trip!
