Got one this morning. They are so fun to hunt. For those interested I shot this buck quartering to me at 385 with a 215 Berger hybrid. Went in at the base of the neck/front leg area and exited right behind the last rib on the opposite side. He hunched up for a few seconds before tipping over. I didn't inspect the inside for damage but it obviously did the job. This is the fourth antelope I've shot with that 215 Berger hybrid without any meat loss. IMG_2240.jpeg

Opening morning wasn't too exciting. We saw plenty of antelope but not many were on public or block management. The ones that were had hunters on them already.

The late afternoon was a different story. We found a herd on public with several bucks. We were hoping for one, would have been thrilled with two, but "it got a little Western" around 5 PM. My oldest son went left hoping he'd get a shot after my youngest shot or if we bumped them. Boyd and I slipped into 185 yards. Boyd dropped the first one and the herd bunched up and went right a hundred yards and stared. Isaac moved back down to us and crawled to our position at our motioning. The herd moved back left across in front of us and isaac dropped one at 205. The herd ran left and stopped again and I said I guess I could shoot one too if they are going to stand there so Isaac handed the rifle over and I dropped one at 200.

I guess they just couldn't figure where the shots were coming from. I've not seen them act this crazy before but we'll take it.

In the excitement, I thought mine was a better buck but glad we all notched tags.

Boyd's in foreground, Isaac's right and half way up, and mine far left closer to top of hill.

First western states hunt and first antelope. Had a blast and definitely won’t be my last.

Spot and stalk, 217 yard shot with a 264 Win Mag Ackley Improved, 156 Berger at 3150. Dumped him on the spot.

Thank you to the people on here that were actually helpful in providing info to make this happen instead of basically telling me to figure it out on my own.
