Hope to be hitting the sage on a special permit next month! Until then, still working on chores/cleaning around the duck pond(s).

We certainly enjoyed ourselves on the opener Wednesday. It'd be great if this rain would go away for Sunday as I'd like to get out again.

The high alpine lake chill session was key, eh?! I like the photos

There was a pair of wigeon in our lunch time lake .... at 3,800ft! wtf were ducks doing in one of the few nearly-frozen lakes, when there are countless "good" duck lakes within a short flight?

Hot temps here but got it done on our first day out. Four pine chickens for dinner!

Headed back up to the sandhills with the pup Saturday for a lot of walking. We got one sharptail, but weren't able to get shots on anymore. Any day walking in the sandhills provides great views though! We finished the weekend getting a buddy his first prairie chicken.

First hunt with my 7 y/o daughter over the weekend. She played dove retriever and loved every minute of it, telling me where I had shot them and telling every dove how grateful she was for “their sacrifice and deliciousness.”

She cleaned the dove this morning and even helped me clean my scatter gun. Definitely memories that I’ll never, ever forget!

it might not look like much, but this is the first thing I’ve killed and eaten off of my own land. Bought the place in April, and took the old .410 out for an hour. Ended up only getting 2, but using a box of paper hulled ammo with no markings on it other than “7 1/2, seconds” from 50 or so years ago, I was pretty happy with the results.

My only reward for the aforementioned special permit in the desert...no birds of the proper persuasion were found; a fun 4 days regardless [short of the near 200 mile round trip drive to repair a lower ball joint....]. Since I hunt dogless, I was the only one in jeopardy here. We amicably parted ways.
