Well, I put in our deer applications last night. That burned up an hour.

Fun fact: Our 13 yo finished hunter safety and was able to apply for a buck tag. He is a subdued kid, but I think excited.

Argh!!! There was a forecast for rain and snow so we delayed our trip, then never made it out. Maybe later this summer we will go wander the hills, but now it's camping season and my crew really likes the water.

Stopped trying for those three. Looking at the odds it just seems impossible and I can only handle so many disappointments per year.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to burn my BHE archery points on a cow tag next year. I don't think the wait here is worth it when you can make a relatively short drive across a state line or two and hunt elk every year. I put my deer apps in a couple days ago and purchased my archery tags. I "should" end up with a total of 5 SD deer buck tags this year if all goes as planned.

Ya, the math on drawing a bull tag at this point if you do not already have 10+ points is pretty bad. Like, lottery type odds. If you look at what's happening with the cow draws you will see we are not the only ones to think so.

I just keep applying and hope to get lucky. I dont think i will burn my west river points this year on an any deer as numbers are horrible so if i dont find any thing worth chasing will just get a left over tag. Deer numbers east river here are worse than i have ever seen. Going to get the kid and east river tag and a left over west river. Nice living 15 minutes from both east and west river. Going to hit the waterfowl hard this year with new puppy and son would rather hunt them any way

I was surprised to see the apps still open yesterday morning. I thought they closed on the 16th? I should draw the two tags I applied for, but I’m pretty eager to see if I’ll draw the 35L archery access permit. Well, that and a very slim chanced 2nd draw cow tag!

I just checked and they will let me change my choices. Stupid South Dakota.

I applied for the 35L as well, not sure if I'll hunt it. Have the inside scoop on a honey hole there. Already have good archery areas to hunt. Drew a bomb Wyoming mule deer tag. Anything else this year is just cake. Odds are we will have mule deer tags for Sep, Oct, Nov, and Dec. Gonna be a great year, I can feel it.
