If .5# is preventing you from hiking you may have bigger issues.

Have you looked at shelters?

I get what you are saying. But people pay a premium for ounces. I'll take a well balanced heavy bow over a light awkward bow. Since Hoyt went down the road of carbon they have been praising the weight savings, personally I think they should give up on the carbon. I had several, I won't own another. Spend r&d elsewhere.

But what's the benefit of carbon if it ends up weighing what aluminum weighs?? A warm handle?

The weight isn’t keeping me from going anywhere I want, I would just prefer to start with a lighter bow weight this when I add a quiver, sight, etc it’s not a boat anchor and weight is where I want it.

I do like the looks of the ventum 33 I have seen and will give one a try

Rifle or bow I don’t care if it’s a little heavy, I’ll shave weight elsewhere (my gut haha) before I worry about weapon weight if it’s a shooter.

To me the warm handle is the only advantage. And it’s a big one for me. Personally I don’t really mind the extra weight. The heaviest aluminum riser bow fully kitted is far lighter than my rifles I haul around.

Carbon has more stiffness than aluminum. Riser is more stable. Has a different feel on the shot than aluminum.

They are getting heavier because everyone has widened the limbs and pockets.

All the carbon risers have more deflection than the aluminum counterparts. Put them in a press and measure it. You don't even need to measure it, you can see the difference. Maybe it's been fixed with the RX series but I doubt it.

If the carbon riser was more ridgid all the target archers would be using them.

This is something I have always wondered about. I wonder if this is why Mathews takes such a hard stance against carbon risers.

Podcast released.

They mentioned the RX-5 has to utilize the upper and lower quiver mounts.

That's the rx-5

They aren't lying about the weight, they just pull all the dampers off.

not surprised its 1/2 lb heavier then advertised. I always love it when guys bash the hell out of mathews for being so heavy and come to find out they never even weighed the bow they have. Looking at you carbon hoyt guys. Although for what its worth I still like my rx3. But they need all that rubber to tame them down.

i shot the RX5 Ultra today. i am not buying one but to me it is better than the previous Rx3 and Rx4 Ultras. It is a lot smoother (to me at a 32" draw) and a lot less vibration. Personally i would go with the ventum as the lightweight carbon doesn't really do much fore being light weight. Now i can see being fully rigged up it maybe lighter than my Rx1 Ultra fully rigged up, if i use the little stabilizer they have and their back bar mount, with the QAD, and new sight system. but not by much
