Put mine in a few weeks ago, but it's not looking too good. I have very clay heavy soil and tried to mix in some cured manure the best I could so I hope they pull through.

You could take soil samples to your local extension and they'd tell you what to add.
Or you could do what I did and just add compost every year and over the years my garden soil has really produced well for us. I usually put some mulch down around the plants to help with weeds and water retention and it gets tilled back in each year as well. Besides the bulk compost I've added we try to compost from our kitchen as well. I think it all helps. I'm by no means an expert but it's worked in our garden.

Just finally got mine tilled. Little late this year. Tomato and peppers still inside being babies. Although they are getting big!
Strawberries and blueberries are cranking out flowers and it should be a good year

Those old Troy Bilt's are workhorses! We've got a '74 model we bought new, completely rebuilt it a couple of years ago.

My wife and I worked our tails off this past year putting in a garden behind the house the pictures don’t do it justice but that is a very steep hill we had to cut down to make it. All those rocks were moved around from the creek below the house or found on the property as we are cleaning it up. Ground just hit 60 deg here we are putting corn in this week but that goes in down by the creek

Looks great man! Building a good garden is a journey that takes years to get the soil where you want it. You have a beautiful background to garden in!

Not to brag but we are getting loads of delicious fresh strawberries from our garden now. I’ll try to get a picture tomorrow. They are fabulous.

Clay soil is awesome after a couple years of working it. Gypsum and oyster shell help to make it more friable.

Like hunterjmj said: a soil test is crucial. I live in marijuana country, and the growers throw thousands of dollars of fertilizer at their gardens year after year, without knowing exactly what their soil needs

Got everything in this past weekend. Garden by the house and the corn and sunflowers patch below the barn and then just kept going with two giant foot plots of sorghum and turnips....

There was about three times this amount when I started. My wife and I had our share of the bounty. We’ve been grabbing a few handfuls daily for the past several days. Still lots more to go.

6+ quarts a day for the past week. Today was a exceptionally good harvest. Should have another week of good picking!

I stopped tilling, probably wont ever go back. Got sick of the weeds. I can see doing it initially if needed but not every year.
