2021 California Bear

Took a young sow on Saturday in D3-5 public land solo hunt.
Meat should be great.

They are in full force this year. Im on 50, near the caldor fire, and they have been everywhere this year. They just partially opened the national forest, might shoot up ice house area this coming week....

I was up there today, didn’t see any bear sign. Not like I used to see south of 50. Did see a handful of does and a 2x3 that someone just shot though.

I was out in my area last weekend and saw a nice sow and cub. Bear tracks all over. Saw a bunch of bear tracks yesterday too. There are several bears in this area, based on tracks.

Spent the weekend up in the north end of the bollys. Only saw one old pile of bear sign. Pretty devoid of life, no bucks, no bears, no coyotes, and two does spotted the whole weekend. Talked with a gentleman at the trail head for about half an hour before heading home, said it’s been a rough year for everything in the area.

Its a big pain in the butt to get your bear tag validated right now at the regional offices, I had to call the caltip line and get a hold of a Warden to get mine done. I called the rancho Cordova office atleast 20 times Monday and they wouldn't pick up the phone.

Not much -maybe 150#?
Head, boned out meat and fat was 80#

Heading out this weekend to D3-5 but the area of 5 I know pretty well is currently a little too hot for comfort so I'll be driving till I find a random spot to stop and stumble around for a few days. Goodluck to everyone else getting out this weekend.

Yup drove to rancho Monday morning
They're hours for bear validation mon-fri 10-4 with apt
Walk ins tue-fri 10-3
I left them a voice-mail Saturday when I got reception and they called me first thing Monday morning

By buddy shot a thug last Sunday . We just got done sweeping a side hill and he was standing there what we were up to . My buddies first bear , stoked to have been there for the fun he had awesome cutters and claws

Does anyone have experience hunting bears in the rain? Do they move at all or is it not even worth going hunting? Looks like it is going to be raining in Northern CA for the next week so I would like to hear how everyone thinks that will impact the hunting.
