I was asleep when my hunting partner for the day (a gal from work who crushes but hadn't really hunted elk before) said, "there's an elk in the meadow." Still waking up from my slumber I said, "I'm shooting it!" well before ever getting eyes on him. She responded, "are you sure?"

And that, my friends, is how you kill a raggy bull on the 3rd day of a 21-day rifle season. 😆

Gosh they taste good, huh @browtinebull

My bugle tube got hung up in the brush right before descending through some cliffs on opening morning of archery. I did not go back for it..

Last year while elk hunting, we came up to a grouse perched in a tree. I drew back and my hunting buddy said, you miss that grouse, and your arrow is gone forever. Well, I hit the grouse... in the foot. The arrow launched at a 45 degree angle and we looked for an hour for it. We gave up and then I went back one last time and I found it lodged into a little rise in the midst of some trees, probably 350 yards from where I shot from. 1 in a million chance of finding that arrow. All totaled, I lost 2 more arrows (one lost, one broken) due to grouse. The arrow I shot through my bull was perfectly fine, though!

Shot a calf on the third day of archery hunt this year.
Prefer this over tag soup any day. lets hear your 2020 deepest hunting secrets.......lol
I passed a calf on the 1st day, cow/calf tag, saw nothing but bulls for the next 4 days...calves have to taste better than tag soup.

I was stalking an average 5x5 and stumbled into a shot opportunity on the great 6x6 I killed this year. I had no clue he was even there.

Got a deflection off a cornstalk bowhunting on the ground last fall... Caught the femoral so it all worked out but it could have been a bad outcome...

Spent virtually the entire month of September in a hospital room with my dying father. Had to cancel what would have been my son's first elk hunt. But... no big confession as I definitely made the right decision and wouldn't change my decision a bit if I had to go back and do it again.

I was hunting late Arizona elk with my hunting partner and my oldest son. We spot some elk and there was a spike in the group. I didn't care to shoot a spike so I handed my rifle to my son (he had never shot an elk) and I said shoot it, and he did. I put my tag on it.

Please don't tell anyone.

I had a deer come in limping with a broken leg. I put my crosshairs on him and shot. I hit his leg about 4” above where it was already broken, except I blew it the rest of the way off.... I lost the track after three hours.... I’m ashamed to say I lost a three legged deer.

I hunted WA for all 13 days of archery elk season and only saw 2 elk.. I called in 2 different sets of hunters with 1 bugle on day 3, didn't bugle the rest of the season. Got to listen to hunters make interesting "elk noises" then explain to me they knew I was a hunter despite their incessant calling and knocked arrows while approaching.
Sure hhop I draw a tag this year..

I called in a nice 6x6 , it was fast and furious me running towards him, he running towards me. I felt the wind hit the back of my neck blowing straight to him so hard to I ran to my left 30 and got behind a fallen pine, right t when he came up on a bench above, me. I can se his nostril flaring as he was getting a small wisp of my scent and he was looking. I had stopped to close to the pine and had to take two steps back as I drew and he saw me draw. I could tell he was about to run, I had all my pin on him at 39 yards and released and shot right over his back and just clipped his fur as he turned to run. All that training ,all that practicing, all that hard work and I blew it all by myself. I know better.

That’s a classic scenario several of us have encountered with a bow. I did the exact same on a big whitetail not once (shot under) but twice (shot under). The first miss was a pulled shot, the second a misjudgment of range on the fringe of where I was comfortable. To make matters worse I unknowingly hunted the same pair of bucks on opening day of muzzy and killed the much younger and lesser scoring 11pt in a rush only to realize I had taken the lesser of the bachelor group in hindsight. I had him shoulder mounted to serve as several reminders of lessons learned.
