It did in this situation. I was shooting a 6.5 saum, him 28 nosler. I shot first and his was immediately behind mine. The elk were going up a fairly steep grade and both took first round impacts. I was shooting 122 copper solids at 3400 fps, and I will probably ditch this bullet. I put 3 rounds in the boiler room and he was still standing as of nothing happened, I hit him with a 4th high shoulder and he dropped like a bag of hammers. I put 4 rounds on target in probably 15 seconds or less. My partner was using 195s, and his bull took the first to vitals and was still up and headed up the hill, he put a 2nd round in vitals between my 3rd and 4th shots. His elk staggered for 5 yards after that and then collapsed falling down into the ravine. It was pretty epic! Next season I'll probably be back to shooting my 300 norma imp or 338 rum, I'm having brass sizing issues at the moment with the 300nmi, and my lengthened bolt stop broke on my rum 4 days before the trip, so they were both sidelined. So it turns out the "1, 2, 3 BOOM!" actually works? Haha we have tried it with antelope and never gotten two at once. Hunting this weekend with a buddy and we both have cow tags. Seems like a nice time to try "1, 2, 3 BOOM!" again and see if we get one. We basically made a deal to split whatever we get if we only get one so this could be fun!
ah, two guys shooting 6.5SAUM and 28Nosler are probably pretty serious shooters. It did in this situation. I was shooting a 6.5 saum, him 28 nosler. I shot first and his was immediately behind mine. That had to be one hell of a load. You got good joints to handle that. I'd need an ambulance if I tried that.Packed all the meat and heads out in 2 rounds trips, it's was misery. Elk meat is always earned.
They were quite heavy. We boned out the rear quarters which save weight. I have a tore up R knee, and i felt it for a few days. I weight/cardio train regularly so I had a lil prep. That's key. That had to be one hell of a load. You got good joints to handle that. I'd need an ambulance if I tried that.
Congrats
come on, everyone knows you can't kill an elk with a 25-06, and if you try it can't be more than 100y . Great animal, congrats!Got this guy monday evening on my day off. 250 yards, 25-06 put him down.
