2020 Coyote Board! Post Them Up!

Will be heading out tonight to see what is moving after this multi day snow storm we have been having, hoping thethey are all out and running around.

I'm up in northern Colorado. We have some really good coyotes around here. I cashed in 14 of them Jan 7th and brought home $765. Whole coyotes on the carcass! 1 brought a $100 bill and 6 brought $75 each. Prices are good currently. I have 4 to sell right now but I'm Going to get on em this weekend again. Hope to have another 10-15 by Feb 7th

Who was the buyer, Petska ? I know they take whole on the carcass. If you dried and stretched you would really get a good price.

Yes Petska is who I sold to. I planned to skin them this year but always seem to run out of time.

I got 2 more this morning. Both with my 6mm creedmoor and a 88 gr Berger varmint bullet. The first one was 160 yards sitting, chest shot. Surprised by the minimal damage by that bullet so I'll keep testing them for fur damage. Second one was 250 yards on the run hit back in the guts and he made it to a culvert with a spring running through it so I didn't get to recover him. Sorry no pics today. Going tonight again with a friend!

Spend all day yesterday calling with only one double and one single responding. Conditions seemed good with light wind and cold with a little snow on the ground. We had a couple groups howl back at us but they didn't actually come in and property lines prevented us from moving closer. I shot a double calling yesterday and one while waiting for a water tank to fill this morning.

I shot the first one of the pair at 125 yards as he started circling downwind of us. I had my DPMS Prairie Panther with it's new Burris Eliminator III 4-16x shooting the 73gr Superformance ELD-M ammo. The second one came about 8 minutes later as the Foxbang feature on my call had a wounded coyote sound going. It was the smaller female and started to circle downwind, I tried to get it shot before it got downwind of the dead coyote. I've had them smell that and hit high gear before. I dialed up to 16x so I could see her silhouette in the grass and weeds and tried a shot. I don't think it made it through all the cover, but the next one as she took a couple steps did. I saw her trying to get up so I ended the stand and ran up to finish her. I hit her to far back as she was leaving, but did enough damage she couldn't travel after the hit. We drove my old Suburban into the pasture since it has better tires and less weight than my buddies truck, the ground was just starting to thaw on this stand. We used the luggage rack and my drag rope to get them back to his truck on the road.

I think the Burris was a great addition. Since putting the rangefinding, drop compensating scope on the AR I only get close shots while carrying it. I like the close shots, I should have bought one sooner!

This morning I took my 243 with the 4-16x Huskemaw set up for 58gr V max ammo in the UTV as I did ranch chores. I was filling a water tank for some calves when I saw a pair of coyotes come over the hill and stop to look everything over. I grabbed the 243 and slipped up to a bale feeder to take the shot. From past shots I knew the range was about 275 yards so I dialed up the scope and held on the sitting coyotes throat. It made a jump and dash at the shot that once again proved to me how dang tough coyotes really are. It didn't make it far, and the blood trail was really easy to follow. I didn't put the pic of that one up, it was pretty bloody. I also edited the first pic to take my license plate out so I'm a little harder for someone who doesn't like the shooting of coyotes to find and harass.

My wife got this last night about midnight.
We had two come in last night. My wife was the shooter and when the first shot presented itself, she could not find the safety in time. Call it a senior moment, she has only shot the AR a few times. It was pitch black in the "shoot house" guest bedroom. These two were very nervous, the larger of the two clearly seeing the IR light and didn't like it one bit. The one she killed never seemed to notice the IR. It had a fresh broken leg and I suspect the widow seal deal had something to do with that. The coyotes were in and out and my wife took an exiting shot hitting too far back. A follow-up shot closed the deal but it's not on video. It had started rubbing guard hairs on it's back and had mange on the belly.

Edit-Just noticed it's a 2020 kill count, I killed a handful of these in December of 19. 2020 count is 8 I belive.
I've killed several at night with a wicked hunting light off a dead cow. Kimber pro hunter 22-250 with a leupold VX5 3-15x44 shooting a 40 gr Berger varmint bullet at around 4000 fps. Coyotes are worth a pile of money this year!

Another last night, called in from the timber.

Full moon they didn't seem to like to be in the open, we heard most of them in timber

We had a gray fox on the bait, watching him and he split quick. Here come two sets of eyes which were coyotes. Kay had already retired for the night but came from sleep to gun in very short order. 90 yards .223 53gr Vmax X-Sight II stock IR. DRT I will get a still pic in the morning, waiting on #2 to come looking for it's mate.
