2019 Fitness Goals

A lot of snow in feb made it tough but Odin and I grinded it out each night to stay on pacešŸ‘

Can't wait until my Aussie pup Juneau is a little bigger and ready for some trail runs this spring! She's 13 weeks tomorrow and already doing sprints around the house with our English Mastiff, Gad.

Little bit late to the show.

My major 2019 fitness goal was to slim down right off the bat. I set a long term of 190 by May and 215 by March 1. Started at 230 on Jan. 1 and currently at 205.

Another goal was better my shoulder strength and total body workout program. In progress.

Next goal is be able to run a 1.5 mile in 10:30. Last time I had to do it for a work test I got 10:45.

Last weekend in the gym before looking for antlers some outside grind then hammer time in the gym for a sweatfestšŸ„³ nobody is counting but 5.5 months until mountain timešŸ˜¤55C6FFF4-F850-4964-B01D-11183A2A940F.jpeg

622 miles for the year, 1397 more to go.

Elbow is recovering nicely and have been able to start shooting my bow 2x a week, but my stamina is way down. Weight training again, but still quite always from where I was. But so thankful to be able to lift period.

I weighted in at 204.4# this morning, started January 1st at 215.7 so making steady progress. Goal by the end of April is 200# and then I'll stay with maintaining that instead of loosing more.

This year I'm wanting to do an average of 3 trail miles per day, which would be 1095 miles this year. For this year I'm going with hiking or trail running as "trail miles". I've never tracked elevation gain but I'm curious about where I'm at so I'm going to track it this year to get a baseline for setting goals for next year.

Monthly Check In:

Running Miles: 226.51
Hiking Miles: 60.84
Total Miles: 287.35
Elevation Gain: 33,993 Ft.

1/4 of the year done and I'm tracking well and right where I want to be. Hopefully I can get a bit more ahead of schedule before the summer hits.

1/4 in Iā€™m a little behind, but considering how much below zero weather weā€™ve had this winter and a full week sick with the flu, Iā€™m pretty comfortable with my 430 miles. I have several big trips coming up and those combined with the miles I get in our 5 week elk season- I should be in the ballpark :)

I'm a few days behind on my monthly update, work has been hectic.

Current progress towards this years goals (goals on the left, progress on the right):

1500 miles ran - 547 miles ran
100K elevation gain - 63051 ft of gain between outside running and treadmill elevation
A 50k Ultra finish - Finished the OPSF 50/50 in the 50k division. 7Hrs and 39minutes. Goal was under 8.
A 50 Mile Ultra finish - Signed up for a 50 mile race next month
A finish at this years Jackson County 50/50 in the 50 mile division - Race isn't until Dec.
24lbs of weight loss, down to 185 - Down to 193#
And finally, 15 pullups in a set. - Doing 8-10 chins in a set, haven't been working on pullups/calisthenics like I should be.

Well on track to my goals so far. In fact, I should probably adjust my elevation goals to 100k of outside climbing since I gain so much while running on the treadmill (it is always at a 2% incline minimum). I've only taken two days off from running since 2-18, and I think that coupled with really diligently tracking my calories has been my reason for success.

Hopefully everyone else is doing well!

15 mile snowshoe trip into the Elkhorns- I'm whipped! God bless my wife, she got some 2" thick ribeyes ready to go for supper :D

Lost my watch on yesterdayā€™s adventure for the longest day of the year and another one on order...not sure if it will transfer over but on pace for a good year in the mountainsšŸ‘5ECF60AE-EE85-434A-894E-B25FD93E3D8F.jpeg[ATTACH=

Keeping on track, weight is going down and free weight strength going up....rucking and swimming frequency going up. 45 minute hanging core session coming for this afternoon and maybe a ruck at sunset.

finished up April w/ 187 miles- a good chunk of them snowshoeing/backcountry skiing, several 20+ mile outings too

620 trail miles for the year, which puts me pretty close to on track for my goal of 2000

strength training I'm still making gains w/ Wendler (albeit getting more modest); I'm going to pull my strength training back in a week or two as I have the Bob Marshall Open at the end of the month and don't want to risk an injury

Monthly report:

Running Miles- 388
Hiking Miles- 100.5
Total Miles- 488.5 of 1095
Elevation Gain- 57,357 ft.

I've been throwing in a some mountain biking here and there lately which hasn't helped my mileage but has been nice to add some variety. I'm still tracking to meet my goal by the end of the year. It's about time to start adding some extra weight to the pack for my hiking.
