I’m ambitiously trying to put together a back-up plan to hunt elk next rut in case the draw doesn't work out.

My primary concern is the limited amount of elk in the AZ OTC units. According to RMEF and OnX, some of the Alamo Lake Hunt Area and the Winslow-Holbrook Hunt Area could possibly hold some elk due to the fact that some of the hunts' areas overlap and border current elk habitat. I will be hunting with a bow. Is an AZ OTC elk hunt worth the money and time if I do not get drawn? If so, are you yourself or any anyone else you know willing to help narrow down my hunt area within these units? I'm willing to kill any elk, but preferably a bull, even if its a small rag horn or spike. I'm not trying to step on any toes by hunting a honey hole and any info is appreciated.

I can't help on any AZ OTC units. I have 15 points going into next years AZ draw. My advice is to search and search and search hunting forums and google in general. There is usually a lot of info out there, but guys are hesitant to share any new info due to all the pressure in OTC units these days.
Good luck!

I can't help 377 but I can definitely help OFFHNTN- clearly the best thing you could do is to pool your 15 points with my 8 so I'd be able to draw this year! 😁

OTC elk hunts in AZ are very doable but very tough if you don't know what you are doing. The AZ OTC units hold elk, even a fair number of elk, but the habitat is "atypical" and won't be your typical habitat for elk hunting. That being said, I know of several 250"+ bulls taken from those units. You can hunt there for a majority of the year if I'm not mistaken so a rut hunt is possible as well. These are underestimated and under appreciated hunts. There are a few guides/outfitters who are excellent with these tags and are very reasonable if you are interested. PM me if you want more info. No affiliation whatsoever....

Thanks for the advice. I have searched on google and forums with no luck so far. I will keep on it though! I wouldn't assume there was much pressure in otc elk areas here in AZ, but I might be wrong.
