I watched the video after the fact since I had appointments at the broadcast time. I did get an email from Kuiu that said the 2015 ultra 6000 was in the outlet for $209. I just looked and they were gone or at least not an item in the outlet, just clothes. Anybody get one of those from the outlet? That might have been a decent buy. New frame construction is the biggest deal I would guess. Old Ultra packs should be compatible with the new frames? (I would hope)

Anyone hear of issues with the 160d they were using? Kind of wonder why the change to 330 if the 160 didn't have issues.

They've been in the outlet for a while. They were even included in the Memorial Day sale which took an additional 15-25% off the already discounted price. That wiped most of the inventory out.

Maybe too many calls for repair? I poked a small hole in mine without too hard of use on it.

Go places, actual and virtual, other than Rokslide and you'll hear plenty. Heavy, ugly, horridly stiff, compensating for sloppy stitching and design with thick thread, etc.

To be serious, Kuiu's marketing language makes them an easy target for ridicule, but credit should be given where it is due. The fabric on the original Ultra series is an exceptional performer for 160 denier, and I can't see any reason to assume the new stuff won't also be excellent.

Kuiu wouldn't have needed to add hypalon reinforcements to the compression strap attachments if they had simply bartacked the webbing, rather than just top stitching it about 6 times and calling it good. Kuiu, Kifaru, Osprey; I've seen them all take this shortcut.

Ironic you mention the tearing of the material around the compression straps on the Ultra. I tore mine out 2 days ago, but thankfully was able to make it work until I got back to the truck. Wondering how KUIU will react when I call them explaining the tears. Never paid attention to their warranty.

I've always liked the streamlined features of the Ultra though I've never owned one. I've used an Icon pro 3200 for three seasons of Mule deer hunting and loved it. I always wished they would make the Ultras with 500d and beef it up some. It would still be slim and trim and weigh less than the icon pros but still be durable. I'm hoping that's what Kuiu has accomplished in the Ultras with 330d. I might spend $149 to find out if that's the case. Based on Luke's recommendation though, I have and am really loving my EMR2!

Has anyone packed out a heavy load in a Ultra pack, like 70+ pounds or more? If so how did it feel and handle the load?

I have.....it isn't all terrible, but their compression strapping isn't great at the bottom, and the straps themselves aren't that heavy duty. The waist belt wasn't nearly as great as the MR or SG ones I have used, but for the money it's great. Sounds like they improved the 2016 design so it could be better than previous gens.

I did train to hunt with it 80 lbs and used it in the meat sling mode. It was basically a jog with the weight , it didn't feel great but worked and was manageable. My back and shoulders were fine after.

Since I started this thread I've ordered the pack bag and promised that I would give feedback. The bag came a few days ago. The 330d seems very comparable to the 500d to me. It makes about the same amount of noise when I scratch it with my fingernail. I wanted to know if it was noisy when I would be pushing through brush. It seems the same as the 500d that Kuiu, Kifaru, Exo, SG, and lots of others are using.

Very well said Dave!! Nearly all companies I have used have had issues here and there. Its how they treat you when it happens is where the rubber meets the road.

Except Big Agnes and their sleeping pads. When I bring 3 extra pads on a fly out cause I know they are bound to leak and 2 of the 3 extras are brand new and I still end up sleeping on the ground....with a semi inflated pad they are a problem. ;)

Been there Luke. Slickrock for a few days with no pad and turned me off to air pads in general for a long time without a back up plan.
