First year elk hunting. DIY in Idaho. During my one week archery hunt I was able to get into a couple of bulls but was unable to make it happen.

Rifle season, we called this bull in on our first morning and had him on the ground within minutes of first light.

Can't wait til next year.

Work socks i wear 1 day still smell worse than 8 day FL. 150yds 270. Personal best bull! Tape said 330 but really, its past the point of being so huge that it really doeesnt matter. Completely stoked!!!! 20151029_124951.jpg

Almost a month old to post...managed to get a modest 6x6 on opening weekend of Montana rifle season. As always, glad to have elk meat in the freezer and antlers to boot, especially after the many hard days and close opportunities blown by the fickle winds I experienced during archery season.

The fun (yet frustrating) thing about this hunt was the numbers of elk I ran into for this shot. Solid herd of 60-70 elk with ~10 mature bulls in the group, bugling non-stop. Two of the bulls were solid 320/330, but of course they were constantly covered by cows and no clear shot appeared...frustrating. Time was running out before the herd moved over the adjacent ridge, and this guy strayed away far enough from the surrounding cows for a 300 yard shot.
