Notice the white spot on his front leg. I felt something under the skin and was thinking it was a stick or antler tip. Squeezed it a bit, and it shot a bunch of nasty infection puss out. When skinning him out, I found this broadhead. Someone hit him in the leg earlier this year. The broadhead hit bone and deflected upwards, stopping under the skin, partially in the muscle. Looked pretty painful!
My archery bull from back in sept, 55 yard shot uphill he was dead in about a hundred yards.
Happy my dad was able to fill his cow tag again.
And last but not least, my wife filled a second rifle bull tag. She made an amazing 57 yard shot on this bull with my .300 wsm after he pushed 30 cows right in front of us. he was dead in about 75 yards as well. This was her first elk.
Lucky for me I was able to experience the hunt I several different ways. I hunted in otc wilderness archery bull for myself to my wife's first ever LE tag. All Colorado public land hunting.
Hunted hard looking for a big unbroken bull but they were hard to come by, only seen 1 and he was a stud fully intact 340+ 7x7 but it wasn't meant to be. So on the second to last day we spotted this bull a couple miles away and were fortunate enough to get within range and put him down. Has been a blessed year that's for sure!
Took nearly 25 minutes to call this guy in from aprox 250 yards out of the thick stuff, 23 yards shot! Blood spot on side is exit wound. My son took this one!
