going to go a head and start up a thread on this quilt now. by no means have i been able to put this quilt through any testing and right now all i have is a few pics of comparison to my 2013 rev x 20* long/wide so ill post those up. but plan on seeing this thread updated throughout the season. first hunt with it will be this may in Idaho for spring bear but im hoping to get up in the mountains in the next few weeks when the temps drop again to get a few nights in it, just been crazy busy at work so ive yet to use it.

i can however offer first impressions. and right of the bat is the material difference. i talked to Tim on the phone when putting this combo together and he told me these quilts were using some new material to him and he was really excited about it. mine is a 10d inside with 20d outer. i did this for a little more water protection on the outside due to how i plan on using this quilt this year. other wise i likely would have gone all 10d as i think it would save me about 2 ounces, maybe a little less. this material is very nice and there is a noticeable difference from my rev x. it has an over all much more svelte feel to the 20d outer and the inside 10d is just how Tim described it, feels like a very fine peach almost. its not fuzzy it just has that super smooth feel. i cant wait to sleep in this quilt, every thing about it just screams comfortable. and of course the build quality is top notch, you can tell Tim takes pride in what he puts out there and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if to some degree or another every one of his quilts goes through his hands before they get to yours, very nice stuff as usual.

not only is it very lite @ 23.2 oz in supplied stuff sack, but it just feels extremely lite (if that makes sense) remember this is a 20 degree extra long wide quilt with treated down. thats pretty freakin lite if you ask me. my rev x in the same stuff sack comes in at 26.8oz that one is a 20 degree long wide with non treated down.

as always it comes with two styles of pad attachments (4 straps total) ,stuff sack and hanging storage sack.

my plans for this quilt this season are to really put it to a lot of use. ive read several comments about down and how limiting it is if it gets wet, or how it cant be as versatile as a synthetic. so im going to find out. this will be my primary sleep system but it is also going to be an insulation layer for me while hunting the high country this year. when i get up in the morning to hunt i will be packing up my quilt and using it on the hill side for those long glassing sessions (much like a woobie) in the mornings and evenings. then at night of course sleeping in it. also hope to have an occasion to spike out with just this quilt. so its going to get used more than a standard bag would just lying in the tent all day. well see how it and its down does. its likely going to get wet, its going to be sat on the ground, wrapped around me while cooking dinner and generally just handled, stuffed and packed around a lot more than usual. im looking forward to it. any way heres some pics and let me know if there's anything particular you want to see on this quilt. as you can see its a much more simple (if you will) design than the revelation, ill be happy to post specific comparison pics by request. enigma is the lighter green quilt

in looking at the pics myself it would appear the rev x has more loft. i dont know if thats an accurate assumption to make just yet. these pics were taken right when i took the enigma out of the box and my rev X has been hanging since November. i will try and get a better pic comparing/exhibiting loft

I look forward to hearing more about your experiences using this quilt. Tim just contacted me yesterday stating that mine is on its way, and I got almost the exact same thing as you. I got a 10° enigma, treated down, regular/regular with the 10d fabric both inside and out. This will be my first experience using a quilt, and also my first experience using treated down. My plan is to use it exclusively for all my mountain hunts, and I'll pretty much be using it the same way that you're planning on using yours. My only exception being that I don't plan on using it like a woobie. Good luck, and definitely looking forward to hearing more about it.

I'm very curious about the performance of the treated down. The jury seems to still be out in regard to treated down. Please post any anecdotal observations or impressions that you have.

Also, littlebuf - I thought the extra long was supposed to be 6" or so longer than the long. It doesn't really appear to be much different in the pic, is it something funky with the angle of the shot?

That thing looks good so far Trevor. Does Tim offer the Enigma with a footbox option like the Revelation?

I know it adds a little weight but that is one of my favorite features of that quilt.

We will have some really cool comparisons this year with the different quilts we will be packing plus some of the different down pants and coats.

as to the long vs extra long. when talking to Tim he explained to me that a long in the rev x is not exactly the same as a long in the enigma. this is due to the full sewn foot box as apposed to the configurable foot box of the rev x. the later leaving a bit more room length wise just by the nature of how it closes up. Tim said the cut off for long vs extra long in the enigma is around 6'4" so i elected to get the extra room. again a bit of a weight penalty for me dictated by my stature. and Justin, no i m pretty sure the only model that Tim offers with the configurable foot box is the revelation. i too am in love with that design and mine will not be seeing a classifieds.

I will be following this thread as well. Unfortunately, I am so happy with the two Rev X's that I have now that I just can't find a reason to look at the Enigmas. I imagine that might change if I ever have a water issue but I am knocking on wood that I can avoid that.

The XLONG Enigma and the Long Revelation use the same template. The Enigma fits 2" shorter users in the same lengths so be aware they fit different.

If you love the Enigma shown but wish it had the footbox of the RevX shown that is our 2014 Revelation.

But your body heat does that, not the down. That's what had me confused. I never like to intentionally introduce water and down but the Downtek is much more resistant to collapse in this situation than untreated down.

That's what I meant the water has to go somewhere and I'm still concerned about the treated down losing some of it's insulating ability after 5 or 6 days condensation, body heat and sweat, dampness and rain.

Tim- How long have you guys been using Downtek? There seems to be anecdotal reports of treated down losing loft and clumping over time, perhaps being damaged by skin oils or washing. No solid information though, lots of speculation.

I just picked up a Revelation off the classifieds to try. I haven't had it in the field yet to really put it to the test, but I'm digging it. If it works like I am hoping, the wife will adopt this one, which is a short for me, and I'll be ordering a long. The idea of treated down is very compelling for me.

But should I pack a liner to give treated down another layer of protection? Are special methods required for washing? Is treated down more susceptible to damage from longer periods of compression?

Any insight, however anecdotal would be appreciated.

I've had Downtek only since summer. No reports of behavior any different than normal but it hasn't been too long yet.

Ok so here is my $.02/question,
So you are used to regular down right. You have a wet day in the outdoors, like normal you climb into you down bag/quilt. Thru the night your body heat dries you out.
Now with the same scenario except with treated down, I would think that you would not dry out a well. Now this is why I think this, with standard down the moisture breaths thru the bag/quilt but with the treated down since the down is now hydro phobic the same moisture can't pass thru a easy. so you would dry slower.

Just my thought process, don't know if its right.
