3 days in, elk 4 Ross 0....they were screaming the last two days. Was able to call in 4 bulls inside of 25 yds, but in these jungles you often have no shot inside of 10 yds....oh well the nature of archery hunting and the fun of elk season in september. Here are a few photos of the season so far and the others hunting in Idaho.

Great pics Ross. That black wolf looks like he could be big by the size of his melon. I noticed the wolves hit that wallow 4 hrs after that bull was there.
It also looks like there are 3 wolves. I see what looks like a lighter colored muzzle or top of the head at the shoulder of the black wolf.

Sweet pics, hope you get one of each. In MT FWP has taught us those are just coyotes of unusual size. Good luck!

7 days in and 10 bulls inside of 30 yds and 3 inside of 20 yds, but the broadside gods are against me....have had some unreal bugling action the last 4 days culminating in a stud 6x8 inside of 25 yds between me and my partner but in these jungles just no shot angle...5 days left later this week. Some stud bull left these rubs

Ross, how did things end up? Any blood on your hands? Sounds like great hunting, just real thick! I got one in Utah and blanked in Oregon.

Tag 1 season 1 just a much tighter belt and pants that dont want to stay up :) Hit the scales at a whopping 156 today with two months of elk hunting to go...final tallly for North Idaho elk Ross 0 Bull elk under 30 yds 13.......a bakers dozen.......11 days afield 9 days had great bugling action just never a good presentation or clear of brush.....on to season number 2 on 10/10 with a rifle for Tag 2 of Idaho, then back into North Idaho on tag 1 for 5 days on 10/25, and Montana will have to wait until the snow flies....the only racks coming home were these sheds........still plenty of time to fill all 3 tags and many days afield with plenty of ice bags on the knees.

Sounds like a great experience nonetheless! A kill is only the "whipped topping on the pie". Pie is still good without it, as I'm sure your experience has been thus far! I share your same problem with a tighter belt and pants that don't fit. I normally hover around 170-175, but weighed in at 158 when I got home. Definitely time to bulk back up in the gym and enjoy some less active whitetail hunting here in the flatlands before I begin training hard again for next year. Thanks for sharing your experience and good luck on the remainder of your season!
